Icon44 Kovalchuk considering return to NHL

per Friedman on HNIC: http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/h...ng-nhl-return/

According to Friedman this is how it works:
If Kovalchuk wants to play for the Devils, he can play for them no problem.

If he wants to play for someone else, all 30 NHL teams need to approve it BUT if he doesn't want to sign with NJ or NJ doesn't want to sign him a team that wants him will probably work out a sign and trade with NJ or trade for Kovalchuk's rights to avoid needing approval from the other teams

in before someone suggests:
Gaudreau-Monahan-Kovalchuk

I was thinking more along the lines of:

Kovalchuk - Bennett - Radulov

lol

Benny and Russkies

He'll have to sign a new contract even if he plays for the Devils right? His last NHL contract as voided right?

Not gonna lie, he's a perfect fit for what the Flames need. Pure shooter\scorer with a right shot. I'm on this wishlist train of acquiring Kovalchuk. Besides, I feel like his #17 will be available shortly.

We will see if he actually means it this time. There have been lots of examples of when KHL stars threaten to go to the NHL as leverage in KHL contract negotiations.

The russians sure have a good gig going. They can threaten to bolt on either league for more cash.

Seeing some of the posts in this thread it is obvious some people still don't know there is a salary cap in the NHL.
