It is on line, and you get a completion # I think.

It certainly isn't yearly. I have never done it. My wife has.

I really don't think its a bad idea for parents to have to take a 1 hour course or discussion group or whatever every year when they register their kid. Now the question is if their kids play multiple sports what do you do? Maybe have a signed off letter from the organization so that you can not have to go to 8 courses.

I don't disagree, but I reckon the outcry would be deafening.

I haven't been involved in Minor Hockey in 7-ish years, but it used to be up to the organization to sign up and enforce the Respect In Sport. Hockey Calgary forced at least one of the parents to take the course, and their kid could not be part of a team unless it was completed. It was definitely a top-down approach and, while there was a lot of complaints about it being implemented like this, it was probably the only way it could have been done.

That is the way it is now. One parent needs to take the course once. There is talk that it will need to be re-done every few years but I don't think it has been confirmed yet.

Even if it is done, do you really think that it will stop parents from behaving like they do? An online course will not stop an @$$hat from being an @$$hat.

Especially if they have their wife (or husband) take the course for them.

Hockey Calgary always had division chairpersons at certain games and would definitely bar parents from being at the rink and, in at least one instance that I remember, suspend the kid if the parents disobeyed and continued their abuse.

There are tools in place, but there definitely has to be an acknowledgement that this is a problem (which it doesn't sound is the case in PA) and a willingness to actually do something about it.
