That price doesn't sound outrageous to me. It's a great piece (in theory; I haven't actually seen it). I like that kids can play on and around it and interact with it a bit. I love how Calgary has made it a priority to have nicer stuff. It's the GD rusty metal I can't understand. What's Chicago's weird ball thing that people always get their pic with? It looks like chrome. Imagine if that was a hunk of rust. It'd be awful.
Take every piece of public art/architecture you've ever enjoyed anywhere in the world and imagine it as a rusting hulk of hideous metal. Everything is worse when you cover it in rust. I'd like to reiterate that I'm speaking objectively here.
