Restaurants in private homes — sharing economy's latest trend
On a related note, all of you are invited to my drink-sharing home bar.
You purchase a round of drinks through my app, show up at my home and I make you a round of drinks of my choice from my home bar.
Might Knob Creek neat, might be room temperature Pilsner, you're not really buying liquor anyways, that would require a liquor license. You're making a donation for my company while I make some side money. Sharing is caring.

In my newfound life as a Freegan I think restaurants of all iterations are nothing but a disgusting indulgence in the flawed ideology of the decadent West.
I simply rifle through their trash and reap the harvest of Mother Gaia's black-bin!

I'd serve you the good stuff then!
I just need to figure out a pricing structure that ensures I'm undercutting bars, and flouting regulations, while ensuring any profits serve the app provider first & foremost.
Minimum drink prices in this province are $2.75 eh, I'm thinking I charge $2 a drink while keeping $0.60 for the app and the remaining $1.40 for the bar share operator.

There's an Edmonton startup doing the takeout model. They say they have 150 ppl signed up to cook, including a number of red seal chefs. I think the website is Getscarf
Love these ideas.

I like the idea although I don't know if I would be willing to try it myself. Maybe if the person had lots of excellent reviews and had served many people before me I would be more comfortable paying them a visit.
It would be great for getting real authentic ethnic cuisine. It could be a viable option instead of getting more expensive, potentially westernized ethnic food. I'm thinking for something like Indian or Asian or Mexican food it would be great to visit a grandma's house who knows how to make some great food.

So...what happens if the food is crap and the service is terrible? Do you berate the cook in front of his wife and then tear the wife down because it took her 15 minutes to move the food 20 feet from the damned kitchen to the dining room table while little Johnny and Suzy are watching you call their parents the worst pseudo restaurateurs ever?
"What the hell are you trying to do, kill me? Good Lord! Do you two little brats have to choke down this gruel on a daily basis?"

Got taken to a Vegan version of this just off the Drive, as if it could have been anywhere else in Vancouver, it's a pain in the arse as unlike a restaurant the host constantly wants your approbation for his fake bacon and various other fairly unpleasant creations.
Basically you are paying for the privilege of having to be a polite guest, 'yes the room looks lovely, oh don't worry I can squeeze in there, yes the fermented carrot shreddings taste just like salmon'

Paying to have dinner with strangers in their house. This sounds like hell.

I picture it like this. I stop by, grab a bourbon or two (take-out) and make my way down the hill where I hang out in the park for the evening. It's brilliant!

LOL. People are becoming such frikking cheap-asses.
I would feel like such a creep hanging out in some strangers living room, drinking wine from a Scooby-Doo tumbler, eating a Stouffers lasagna, while their Daschund is begging for a bite under the table. And having to pay for that awesome ambience ta-boot.
