Thanks Norm/Surferguy.

SG, have you been to Samara or know anything about it?

I stopped in for lunch one afternoon. My buddies cannot shut up about the place and they really like it. In fact that is where our trip in March is planned for.

I seem to remember a larger beach with a sand dune you need to cross. But I cannot be quoted on that. Not sure if there are home directly on the water there.

Trip booked.

Landing in Liberia, going straight to Samara for 6 nights. Will venture around the area, surf in Samara but also close areas, heard Nosara is good for surfing too.

Then off to Tamarindo for 5 nights... will tour around that area, hopefully by the end head off to Witches Rock for a day of surfing with one of the local tours.

Then finish off at some All Inclusive for 4 nights of rest. Will still venture around, maybe surf, windsurf, do a fishing charter.

Now just need to decide if I want a car.

Thanks for the replies!

I have an overnight in San Jose coming up. Can anyone recommend a place to stay and anything to see/do for the day? I will get into the city around noon and fly out the following morning.

Monteverde is a "cloud rain forest". Good Zipling, Hikes and ATVing. Had a great time in this area, compare other destinations to this location.

Tortegeuro is on the East coast and is only reachable by boat down the canal. Usually all-inclusive as food is flown in by helicoptor. Lots of boat tours that go down the smaller canals.

I'd stick to something in the Central Valley. Sundown is at about 5pm right now so that may limit the amount of sightseeing. Where in SJ are you staying?

I am going on the trip without my wife so I have to be careful to only do things that she wouldn't want to do. It is a fine balance but if you do it wrong the next trip becomes that much more expensive.

So I am staying in Turrialba at the moment and my plans run out Tuesday night while my flight is Thursday morning. I was thinking of hiring a driver for the day on Wednesday to tour around before grabbing a hotel in alajuela for the night. Any suggestions for a destination that isn't too far out of the way?

Any updated spots to hit, must-do's, etc for Costa Rica? Fly into San Jose in a week!

If you're single or just ready to have fun head to Jaco Beach...

Beach or Jungle or both? My area, Dominical and south has both, but a week will be very short. If you want just jungle, stick to the areas around San Jose like Arenal and Monteverde. If you want just beach, try and get a flight into Liberia and then it's only 1 hour to Tamarindo.

Edit: Just saw you are flying into SJ. You take a small domestic plane to the coast, which will save a day of travel by car.

Heading there with a buddy, a backpack, and no solid plans.

We'll do some jungle stuff, some volcano stuff, and plenty of beach stuff. Options are endless, really, the way we're going about things. Should be an exciting trip, for someone who has never been that far south.

With that, I welcome any and all suggestions!
