Thomas Mulcair disease: Canada’s would-be PM slips on the oilsands
Quote:
Prime-minister-in-waiting Thomas Mulcair is sounding downright paranoid in defending his theory the oilsands are inflating the Canadian dollar and hollowing out the country’s manufacturing sector.
Never mind that Jason Myers, president of the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters Association, disagreed with this argument back when Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty first made it in February.
“Frankly, the big problem over the last three or four years has not been the high dollar because companies can adjust to (it),” Myers told the Globe and Mail. “The big problem has been the collapse of demand in the United States, which is our major market.”

I'm sure more of this stuff will happening considering he is a raging moron.
This part is pretty funny.
Quote:
Former Liberal leader Stephane Dion also criticized Mulcair for being divisive, noting he rejected political advice to adapt a similar strategy on the oilsands when he ran for PM.
|
When the biggest idiot that ran for PM the past 50 years calls you divisive and says your strategy is stupid, something is very wrong.
And in case people don't read the actual article.
Quote:
What’s more interesting is Mulcair’s response. On Tuesday, he told Postmedia News the premiers of Alberta, B.C. and Saskatchewan (and presumably everybody else, including that notorious Stephen Harper sycophant, Stephane Dion) are merely acting as Harper’s “messengers,” that he (Mulcair) is right, they’re wrong, and he won’t respond to mere premiers since his fight is with Harper.

lol.

Never thought I'd say this, but I hope the Liberals get their #### together. The NDP are a joke of a party and without Layton wouldn't be the official opposition.

What did he actually say in the first place? I can't find anything in the article except a reference to him saying Canada is suffering Dutch Disease.

We should get rid of all our profitable, lucrative industries. That way we could even do stuff like manufacturing Nike shoes! Think of all the jobs for poor people and children this would create if domestic shoe-manufacturing was economically viable!

I was like "Who's Thomas Mulcair?" Then I remembered the new NDP leader who looks like Hank Scorpio.
Get the hell out of here! Ever see a guy say good-bye to a shoe?

I don't see any direct quote in the article either. Oh well.

No kidding.
I wish the manufacturing industry would be doing great. Canada would be so much stronger economically if Ontario had a strong economy. I'm sure everyone else would agree with me too.
But not Mulcair. He's already doing East vs. West.

Mass Manufacturing in 1st world countries is a dying industry, even with a cheaper dollar we can't compete with developing countries who are paying their workers pennies a day.
If Ontario is hitching their wagon to manufacturing they're foolish.
Beyond that its a worse source of pollution then Oilsands on a concentrated level.
Mulcair of course is pandering to voters, but he's coming across like an idiot.
Its just stupid to go after the engine of your economy to support the doorknob.

Yeah right, I want to return to the 75 cent dollar so I can pay more for everything I buy. Damn I usually like the NDP but this is stupid.

He seems to think he is. I think the NDP will turn out to be a one-hit wonder (with the 2011 election being their one hit). The last thing Canada needs is a divisive Prime Minister.

I think the success of the NDP depends on what the Liberals do. For the good of Canada, I hope the Liberals get themselves organized so they can either become the party in ruling or the official opposition next election.
The NDP shouldn't be anywhere near a position where they can dictate any policy.

It mostly has to do with his paper called: "Tar Sands: Dirty Oil and the Future of a Country" Link (PDF)
And he reiterated his comments on a CBC radio show. Link

After reading through that paper he looks like even more of a giant ######bag. Geez. Unity my ass. First he would have to pull his head out to find out what unity even means.
Dion was against this kind of stupidity in 2008, and I think we would all agree that he was a terrible candidate. What does that make Mulcair then?

That's kinda the point of what everyone has been talking about the NDP never seeing itself in the PM's office or the ratchet of power in a minority. Their policies if adopted in whole are absolutely absurd. They are best served as the shrill and hysterical "Will anyone please think of the children" voice in the opposition corner that dulls the blunt end of some Conservative and/or Liberal policies.
In this case, the oil sands debate, when the NDP refers to 'economists' they are essentially talking about the one's who sponsored the CAW's report this spring called 'Rethinking Canada's Auto Industry.' The NDP wholeheartedly endorsed this paper. It calls for essentially kneecapping the currency by haulting foriegn investment in commodities, and other levels of federal intervention. It also proposes the Government start it's own crown corporation to build cars, and create new tariffs on imports, and essentially base the future of the economy on building cars. Pretty wacky and stupid stuff!

In the NDP's mind the pinnacle of human achievement is drilling in bolts on an assembly line for $30/hr in a world where the lowest wage any service industry pays is a "living wage" of $15/hr, that pretty much inflates the crap out of any goods and services people buy.
