Default Unfolding Events : Car drives into crowd in Times Square NYC

Quote:
An 18-year-old woman was killed and at least 23 people injured Thursday when a speeding car plowed into pedestrians in Manhattan's bustling Times Square, city officials said.

The driver of the 2009 Honda Accord is in custody, New York Police Commissioner James O'Neill said. The motorist, 26-year-old Richard Rojas of the Bronx, has been arrested twice in the past for drunken driving, he said.

The incident, which unfolded just before noon, is being investigated as an accident, a police official said. There is no indication it was an act of terrorism, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and other city leaders said.

Apparently the driver 'lost control' and that this doesn't appear to be an act of terrorism.

^Thats what the police said in the BBC article. In the next breath they have an eyewitness claiming that the car jumped the curb going the wrong way on the street and crashing into a crowded area of Times Square. Which would be much more suspicious of a premeditated action. Personally having been to Times Square multiple times, there's no way a car can drive fast enough given day traffic to crash into and hurt a bunch of people if the driver simply 'lost control.'

FDNY just pulled everyone back from the scene so the bomb squad could get in. This according to CNN so take that with a grain of salt.

NYT reports driver was intoxicated, FDNY have no reason to believe it's terror related.

A girl drove her car through the front of Canadian Pizza Unlimited at Edmonton Trail and 1st Ave NE.

Not at a slow speed either, the place has been closed for over a month I think.

I believe alcohol was not deemed a factor.

Some people are just brutal.

Time to throw away the key.

Police identify the driver
The driver is 26-year-old Richard Rojas, New York Police Commissioner James O'Neill said. Rojas had been arrested twice on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, O'Neill said.

Police said they don't think Rojas' car was being pursued when it drove up on a sidewalk shortly before noon.

Richard Rojas, 26, of the Bronx -- tested positive for PCP and told police that God made him do it, a law enforcement source told CNN.

How is that possible? Been there several times, and it would be very difficult to manoever a vehicle to run into the Pizza joint. Unless, she was just a really careless and horrible driver that was filling up at the Petro Canada, and accelorated needlessly into the store.

A cop friend in Montreal told me angel dust is becoming real popular, mixing it in marijuana and booze is the "in" thing right now.

Maybe people are getting tired of dying using fentanyl

A weird quirk of these kinds of stories is how it's phrased - "Car drives into crowd" like the car acted autonomously. A person rammed a car into people. That's what happened. You wouldn't say "a knife stabbed a bunch of bystanders" - no a person stabbed people with a knife.

/end rant

My only theory was flying up Edmonton trail and then jerking the wheel to the right. I'm so curious, as I agree it seems near impossible.

I don't know if anyone here has been to Times Square, but it is amazing there isn't more vehicular deaths. No one cares about the "walk" "don't walk" light, and vehicles usually plow through those intersections.
It's crazy to watch really.

Seems like a logical comment, considering this incident has nothing to do with Islamic extremism and everything to do with a drug induced psychosis.

But keep fighting the good fight buddy.
