Yeah I expected to only play that one a few times and be done with it but I've played at least a round pretty much every day since I bought it

Alan Wake is being removed from digital stores due to expiring music licences. It's currently on sale for 90% off for 48 hours. It's one of those sleeper hits so I'd recommend picking it up if you haven't already.

http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/endless-space-2

Endless Space 2 is turn-based, 4X space-strategy that will put you in the role of a leader guiding his civilization in making its first steps into the cold depths of interstellar space. Your Vision. Their Future.

It looks amazing, my only concern is it looks like its a lot of drinking from the fire hose.

I've always thought that the flaw of 4x games is that they don't make you the leader of an empire they make you a micromanager that gets bogged down on colony building and resource exploitation, while at the same time your designing fleets and fighting battles.

I've always through that there needs to be a variable 4x where you as the leader can make decisions on appointing people to roles. If you don't want to do colony development you can place governors and resource ministers. If you don't want to do spying and exploration you appoint a intelligence minister.

Want your fleets to auto build you hire a designer and a Joint Chiefs of staff.

When it comes time to make decisions they all present their cases. Go to war, secure your borders, focus on trade and wealth. Set up a game like that and if you decide you want a hands on approach you can, if you want to be an emperor put out your dictates and have underlings handle the work, and if they're incompetent, kill them.

Anyone else excited for Rising Storm 2: Vietnam? I had the chance to play the closed beta this past weekend and had a blast. If you're interested in a more "hardcore" fps experience this is a game worth checking out.

This is fairly good overview of the game.

Some chopper gameplay.

I don't know why it never struck me until now, but these FPS games based on real wars seem very messed up to me.

Why are we making simulations of events that really happened and then considerably toning down the horror and violence of war?

War. What is it good for? Absolutely nothing!

War. What is it good for? Absolutely nothing! Setting the tone and stage for fun vidyagames 50+ years after the fact!

It's just fantasy based on historical events.

I'm not even a COD guy, but the new WWII COD has me pretty darned excited. Aren't you? It's like watching a WWII movie, but you control the actor.

Movies and TV have been doing this for years. Romanticizing the violence. Minimizing the horror.

Video games have been set in "real" war situations as well for a while (1942, Wolfenstein, etc.). It's just that the graphics have caught up so it can feel more real than it has in the past.

So, EA/BioWare again veer away from the core of a franchise to chase the open world action market, and the result is a poor product not really pleasing anyone that may have killed the IP:

Nice work, guys. Good asset management.

Speaking of EA completely messing up a great franchise, I came across this interesting video on what was once my favourite game, C&C:

Here's a single use code for a free copy of Witcher 2. Redeem on GOG.com.

It seems as though Far Cry 5 takes place in Montana. Judging by the teasers, there's great potential to be had there.
