I'd like to start a campaign to have Getzlaf's banner brought down and burned before our first home game with them next year. Classless a-hole who I've despised ever since he and Perry (an even bigger a-hole) laughed at our bench in the 2015 playoofs.

x2 hate Getzlaf... I dislike him more than anyone else on that team, just a super smug dude. Ever since the time in junior where Phaneuf just destroyed him with a clean hit and he jumped Phaneuf I've really disliked him.

Why does he even have a banner up there? They didn't win the memorial cup or even a WHL title (as far as I know?).

How about 2007 i think in the first round when he scores by grabbing the puck and dropping it in our net (reviewed by awarded a goal to anaheim of course) and the smug pos saying in the interview after "oh yah absolutely got my stick on it". jackass.
Engelland shoulda just grabbed him and tuned him.

That's always been the biggest thing that's bugged me about that banner. It's like a lifetime achievement award, they hung it up to recognise the career after he left rather than his accomplishments there. Not a fan of that. If they did it after he retired, maybe, but come onm not while he's still playing. And for a division rival no less

Getzlaf was a great Hitmen player and deserved having his number retired. Taking the banner down will not help the Flames beat the Ducks.

I mean I could understand a banner for players like Iginla or Hall who led their teams to back to back memorial cup championships along with dominant production, but 70 points in his 50 game draft+1 seasons and a second round exit? Seems a bit much.

4 seasons with team and one as captain, .92 PPG, twice named to the World Juniors, and once a WHL first team All-Star. Seems pretty good to me.
I just realised though his number isn't actually retired, he is "Forever a Hitmen". Nice to see the stupid "Forever a Flame" also infected the Hitmen. Another reason to fire Ken King...

The main issue for me is the banner is MUCH larger than all the other banners hanging from the rafters. What is the reason for that?! A picture of Getzlaf dwarfs the Calgary Flames Stanley Cup Banner and the banners for Hitmen championships. It's absurd.

Unless it's HBO doing these mic'd up compilations, these things always suck. Just a bunch of players grunting and groaning, and the occasional cheer when someone scores. No trash talking. No swearing. No full conversations. Sometimes the coach yells out a line change or says good job.
But I guess they have to keep it 'G' rated. It's definitely not the good stuff you want to hear.

Pretty sure it's the same size as the Flames and Roughnecks banners. It's the WHL banners that are smaller.
You can see it in the distance in this photo. You can see the Getzlaf banner in the gap between the Roughnecks banners, and how much smaller the WHL banners are...
Yes, it does look stupid. At least it won't be alone once they move Ladd's banner next to it next season (which, I assume they'll do this summer).
