Default BlackBerry OS 4.5 Released (for Curve at least)!

(Official release version, not beta.)

Here's the link to a foum that will (hopefully) help you install it, etc.

http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...scussion-curve

Two things...

1) You may have to register a forum account to see the appropriate section(s)
2) You abolutely HAVE to match the OS to the exact version of your phone.
(Hint: not all Curves are equal, you have to know if you have the 8300, 8310, 8320, 8330 etc.)

My upgrade process is about 98% finished. We'll see how it goes.

What's the over/under on Telus getting an update for my 8830? One month? Two?

I'm not sure about CDMA... In fact, knowing Telus, I'd be surprised if they even bothered to offer an update.

Doesn't matter, once the patch is out for the phone model, even if it's for a US Carrier, you can update your phone with it. I'm currently running a Verizon (i believe) OS on my Telus Pearl 8130. You just have to delete the Vendor.xml file and it can be used for any carrier as long as you have the right model of phone.

I know that... I just wasn't sure if it applies to CDMA phones or not. GSM phones are activated through the SIM card, but CDMA are through the carrier... so, to finish that thought, my assumption has always been that since you have to activate a CDMA device through the carrier (and can't "unlock" it from that carrier), you are probably also locked into using vendor-specific updates.

I know all about flexing/modding GSM phones, I've just never bothered with CDMA stuffs.

I am afraid of bricking my work phone but adding the Verizon 4.5 would be pretty sweet.

It is pretty nice... I love how it formats all the messages now. So much easier to read!

(I mean... I've never really had a problem reading them before, but now it's really nice.)
