Default 2013 World Championships

Does anyone really care yet? Anyways, three Oilers have already accepted invitations:

Ryan Rishaug@TSNRyanRishaug5m

Hall Eberle and Dubnyk have all accepted invitations from Hockey Canada to go to World Championships.

Don't care about the tournament but it's nice if young players get more time in. I'd like to see Backlund go just to keep playing. Ditto for guys like Brodie and Sven.

Don't really care if guys like Girodano, Wideman, Hudler or Cammaleri go

Any chance the Americans take a flyer on Johnny Hockey? Or does he lose his eligibility? I know the odd occasions the Canadians take a junior player but I haven't really followed the Americans during the Worlds.

Canada already adding perennial losers to the squad, no surprise they never win.

Possible Flame presence at WC:

Canada: Giordano, Brodie, Wideman, Cammalleri,
USA: Butler, Stempniak
Sweden: Backlund
Swiss: Baertschi, Berra
Finland: Ramo, Granlund, Ortio
Czechs: Hudler, Cervenka, Horak

Believe it or not USA has already asked Butler.

It will be interesting to see what happens this year because the tournament starts during the first round of the playoffs. They usually have the option to add players eliminated in the first round, which gives them 22 teams to draw from. Because of the late season, they'll really only be able to pull from the 14 non-playoff teams.

From the Flames, you have to think the young Europeans will be going: Baertschi, Backlund, and Horak. Stempniak and Butler could get invites from the States. I could see Gio, Brodie, Stajan, and Cammalleri get invites from Team Canada, but other than Brodie, I don't know if any of them will go. Gio has a newborn, and I recall Cammalleri was mad that he didn't get an invite last year.

Gaudreau is an interesting one. In a normal year, I don't think he'd get consideration, but because of the smaller pool of NHL teams to pick from, he could get a look. I don't believe he'd impact his NCAA eligibility by going.

WTF! I don't see Ryan Smyth's name on the list?

Finland facts. Ortio is one of three goalies with the national team playing in a Euro Hockey Tour tournament in the Czech republic. I don't know if he has a chance of making the world championship team.

Granlund is out of the question. Rämö as far as I know declined based on personal reasons.

I think it would be great for us fans to get a good look at Berra and ramo. I'm hoping both get a good chance to play for their countries.

There's no eligibility issue but I'd be surprised to see him selected.

I am torn on this tournament. While it is nice to get a better look at some of the guys we are interested in and follow, at the same time, they could get injured.

Joe Nieuwendyk got his first knee injury at this tournament.

If any Flames play in the tournament I demand a dressing room for them that's separate, I don't want the icky smell of pathetic defeatism on our players.

Will be cool to see Berra in a more updated viewing for sure. Hope Sven goes but won't be upset if he doesn't go either. Toss up between starting his bulking up or playing more hockey.

Vanek is in for Austria. Very good news, especially since Grabner will play in the playoffs and Nodl is out with a knee injury.
