I've heard from a few sources that this is only one of a few designs that are being looked at. Another one that is involved is primarily a glass structure.

Like I said in my previous post, you can rest assured that this design won't be picked. Rediculously expensive - and there's no place to put in concessions, the way it's shown.
You have to be honest, it doesn't look any goofier than the Saddledome.
No, I'm pretty sure that is way goofier than the Saddledome. The only really unique feature of the Dome is the roof shape, and that isn't exactly unique either. There are a handful of arenas that use this design.
Now, if these images actually are a legitimate potential design, then I will give the designers credit for trying something unique. However, that is just flat out ugly. And it would be ugly in any city.

Out of curiousity which other arenas?

Not awesome ... not terrible. I actually have a hard time figuring out how I feel about it. Perhaps it's time to use a word I rarely (if ever) use: meh.
I'm with the people who think its a glorified oil funnel. I think the very open concept isn't practical and costly. Washrooms look they would be a bitch to get to.
When Oiler fans demanded for more toilet space.. I don't think a giant toilet is what they had in mind.
I hope to god this isn't the design they choose.
Ultimately, it's what's inside that will matter most. I hate Rexall for how cramped it is. I am pretty much convinced that it was designed as a 12,000 seat arena, with a last minute change made to up it to 17,000. Even Oil Kings games are cramped, and they only pull in 4000.
If they go with this design, hopefully it is spacious on the inside. That said, if they do go with this design, they should replace the statue of Gretzky with one of the 2000 flushes guy.
There is allot of unanswered questions with the available photos but it's kind of interesting. However, it looks as though all the services are on the ground floor. If this is the case it would be a disaster to try to get anything done during intermissions.
I think that there is in fact a conspiracy to build a Transformer, digusing the different components as hockey arenas. Edmonton is in charge of building Optimus` anus.
Perth has the head:
