Well, it is run by the NHL so that shouldn't come as a surprise.

Voynov is still indefinitely suspended by the NHL. They should be able to say he isn't allowed to play.

Obviously Weitz didn't realize it's organized and run by the NHL, not the IIHF.

I thought the reason why they chose this format is because only NHL players were eligible. I don't think Euro teams would be thrilled about sending top players to the tournament considering their seasons will have already started.
And I thought Voynov wasn't even allowed in the USA.

Backlund only had about 12 times as many points as Kruger (while being good defensively). Other than that, it looks like a pretty good team.
Oh well, at least he's probably not going to get injured now.

That is a strong team so not a huge surprise that Backlund didn't make it
Still wish he would have made it over a guy like Kruger though

Yeah surprising to go with Kruger over him , although with Backlunds history of injury in the offseason/preseason maybe it's better he doesn't play.

I get that but they want this to replace the IIHF events don't they? This would sour on the other countries? Or am I just over thinking this?

Too bad for Backlund, but that is a tough line up to crack. Plenty of good players left off, with Kruger, maybe Soderberg as guys you might question.
Happy for Kevin and Nakladal (assuming he signs). That level of competition should really propel them early in training camp.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

I really don't see how Lindholm didn't make Sweden over the shell of the Niklas Kronwall. I can understand Klingberg being left off since there's some other elite offensive defensemen on the team so he's a bit redundant, but Lindholm is flat out better than Kronwall is at this stage of their careers.
And Kruger over Backlund is another head scratcher given that they both play very responsible games and are good possession players, but Backlund actually can produce offensively as well.

I don't think Hamilton makes the team. Didn't Burke or Treliving mention they expected to see 5-6 Flames play in this tournament? Gaudreau, Monahan, Frolik, Nakladal and Jokipakka makes five. Did I miss anyone? Add Giordano and you have six. I think we might be done.
