Any word on Lecavalier in LA?
Just wondering if he's announced his retirement yet (if I missed it), or any tidbits of if/when it will occur.
I'd guess that'd need to happen pre any LA-Lucic contract signings?
I've been very much hoping that his run in the playoffs re-sparked his fire and that he wants to keep playing (or he likes the money), thus keeping him on the books and screwing over LA.
Any rumors? Any word?

Only thing I have read is that Vinnie said he was likely to hang them up.

He announced after the Kings were eliminated:
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sport...ticle29746667/
Quote:
“A few guys were really nice about it – they said, ‘Don’t retire, keep playing,’” Lecavalier said. “Some of those guys, the younger guys, said they watched my career.
“I’ve had a lot of good moments. One of the best is winning the Cup, but to get a second chance at playing when you think you might not play again was great, too. This was just a really good experience for me, the last three or four months.”
Lecavalier made it official Sunday – he was retiring after a distinguished 18-year career in which he won the 2004 Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning and the 2007 Rocket Richard trophy as the NHL’s leading goal scorer. Lecavalier – the first player chosen in the 1998 entry draft – played 1,212 regular-season games and scored 949 points. He added 56 points in 75 playoff games.

I am sure I heard in a segment on him during the play offs that part of the deal was that he retired at the end of the season.

Such an absolute bogus clause in that deal. Kings strike again.

Which is ####ing BS.
Isnt that circumvention? I didnt think 'wink, wink, nudge, nudge' agreements like that were kosher under the new CBA.

I would assume the NHL would have to sign off on any trade and the details of any trade.
I am sure the NHL wouldn't allow teams to circumvent the CBA .

The fact that they havent already l;eads me to believe that good ol' Dustin is dotting his 'i's' and crossing his 't's.'
Their last attempt to oust him after signing a contract for new furniture at Leon's when hes supposed to be strictly a 'Brick' man didnt work.
At this point I wouldnt be surprised if Lombardi took up a part time job with LA Public Transit and 'accidentally' runs Brown over with a bus.

It isn't circumvention. At any time when a player files his retirement papers, the remainder of his contract ceases to count against the cap. The only exception is if the player was aged 35 or over when the contract came into effect. Lecavalier was 33 at the beginning of his last contract.
When the Kings acquired Lecavalier, they had enough cap room both in the current season and in future seasons to accommodate his cap hit whether he retired or not. It is true that they would have to get rid of better and more valuable players if he continued playing. But Lecavalier made it known before the trade, as I recall, that he was planning to retire at the end of the year. With his contract and his recent declining production, he would have been untradable otherwise.

Does it seem like LA violates the CBA disproportionately vs the rest of the league?

He'll probably get the job using the stolen identity of Marion Gaborik. Two birds with one stone!

Is it circumvention if the Kings are still accepting the risk of Vinny changing his mind? They want to trade for him, they ask him his plans, and they let him know they won't pull the trigger on a deal if he's planning on coming back. He assures them he's hanging them up.
Sounds like just two sides talking, and one side (the Kings) pulling the trigger on a deal based on Vinny's word. Should Vinny have changed his mind, I'm willing to wager they'd have no recourse and they'd get hosed. There likely was no need for the NHL to sign off on it, it's just something the Kings took a risk on (taking Vinny at his word). Any other team could have done the same.

Exactly. If Lecavalier had chosen to keep playing, the Kings would have no choice but to pay him and take the cap hit.

Nice to see Vinny become relevant as a decent player again to finish off his career. A shadow of his former self, but an effective guy on LA.

How they got out of Richards contract is absolutely mind blowing. Barely a cap penalty at all. A special situation created specifically for them.
