Yeah he did say that they may be waiting for Hitchcock although that as per usual with him is his own pure speculation. I imagine this week or next we will find out if he gets a new contract or the Blues move on. If I was the Ducks I would wait as well as it's not like they are in danger of losing out one of their other candidates as the Flames look to be going off the board or maybe they are also waiting to see what the Blues do.

The coach of the Hershey Bears was recently brought up as well and they just advanced to the Calder Cup final.

Jared Bednar (Lake Erie) might be on the radar too, he has ties to the Flames (assistant coach for the Heat in 2009-10), was head coach for Peoria for 2 years (Bishop and Allen were developed under him), then he moved to the CBJ organization where he was an assistant again for a couple years and now in year 2 as a head coach has the Monsters in the Calder Cup Final. Prior to his time in the AHL he was in the ECHL with the South Carolina Stingrays for 7 years (5 as an assistant), in his 2 years as HC they lost in the semi-finals and Won the Kelly Cup.

I think that would be a stupid reason for the Ducks to delay. The only reason it appears as though the Flames are "going off the board" is because there have been virtually no reliable leaks out of the org. about their search. In a complete vacuum of information I think the Ducks need to conduct their own search with a healthy dose of due diligence.

If the Ducks are interested in Hitchcock why would it be a stupid for them to wait out the Blues situation to see if he's available?

We have heard in the media and from the Flames indicating they may go off the beaten path in their search for a head coach. That's not news and while there have been few reliable leaks it's kind of curuous the one leak continues to be regarding Carlyle (two interviews) which for all we know may be simply Burke purposely leaking that just to get his old friend some credibility.

There has never been a single legitimate source citing the Flames have interviewed Carlyle.

No Hitch here:

Sound like @StLouisBlues run was enough for Armstrong to bring back Ken Hitchcock. Formal announcement could come as early as this week.

I'm kind of surprised an established coach like Hitchcock is willing to accept year to year deals. It's pretty obvious that a don season of any sort will result in his dismissal.

Not like he's bouncing around. He's staying put and would probably keep taking one year deals if they are being offered. He's got a contending team in St. Louis... no reason to walk away.

Get more years and if he gets fired he still gets paid

I would say the fact that he's staying in St. Louis on one year contracts says that money isn't his top priority at this point in his career. He probably wants to win again.

Without a doubt as he could spurn the Blues offer and get a long term deal with another club in the next calendar year if he was after money. Nothing wrong with him believing in that club and wanting to see it through as it's pretty noble in a time when guys like Babcock take the big, secure money to take over a low expectation situation and preach patience.

If I was Hitchcock, I would do the same thing. I think there are a number of coaches that need that security of a multi-year deal, but if Hitchcock was fired, there would be more interest in him than in Boudreau I imagine. He doesn't need that security. Those extra years of being paid only happen if he is not employed by another organization anyways, IIRC.

He can probably demand a premium on his annual salary, citing the risk he is taking by not seeking a long term deal that would surely be available elsewhere. In the long run, he could be making more money doing it this way.

Ken Hitchcock's last rodeo? Don't be surprised if Hitch says next season and his new 1-year contract will be his last as head coach in NHL.

Blues Asst. coach Brad Shaw is not going back to STL. People around the NHL seems really high on the the guy. Could be prime candidate #1 for Treliving.

Good. Count me as one of those people that doesn't want him anywhere near the Flames.

Ken Hitchcock makes it official: next season will be his last as a head coach in the NHL.

It's nice when coaches can retire on their own terms, even if it's not on a winning note.
