THAT's right.

This Billy Powers was a coach at UMich for decades before becoming a scout for the Flames. They moved him over from amateur to pro scouting after Conroy took over as GM.

Seattle did the same without the opportunity to surprise that Vegas had. Nice to see Conroy and the Flames use that strategy too… feels like a bit of a moneypuck moment for the league.

I love the idea that the Flames might be "moneyballing" it, or doing their own version of an expansion draft type team.

I mean CC and his group just finished turning 5 older, more expensive, expiring assets into 14 assets, that could be 15 with a Dallas run to the finals. Despite that, there is no denying this team is still competitive on the ice. They've won 10 of their last 14 games despite the big sell off.

The big question now will be can they deal their aging, expensive #1G and still hold their own with Vladar and Wolf?

I like the strategy Conroy has applied by going for a younger, cheaper version of the player he's been trading. He got Sharangovich in the Toffoli trade, Kuzmenko in the Lindholm trade, Gruschmenkov (spelling) in the Tanev trade, and Marimanov (spelling) in the Hanifin trade. Besides all the futures of course. But doing this he gives the team the possibility of continuing their hot play by slotting in the newcomers in the vacant spots. It might not work out every time, but so far, it has for the most part. That's why I'm excited to see this latest acquisition may slot in, and if the team can just keep on trucking.

Losing Markström will obviously be tough for the team, but Vladar had shown he can compete with the best, and Wolf has great potential.

Really like the direction Conroy has taken for this team. Feels good to be optimistic about the team for a change.

Anyone have advanced stats on Yegor since moving to center?

Plus/minus looks good in that span.

It is a small sample size but very encouraging.

Sharangovich pace ... 35 goals 26 assists 61 points
Toffoli pace ... 32 goals 22 assists 55 points

He's essentially having a Toffoli season. Didn't see that coming this year.

This trade was a win to add an asset that chips in and a pick, and to avoid a scary long term contract with Toffoli.

Bonus 1 - Suniev popping
Bonus 2 - Sharangovich exceeds all expectations
Bonus 3 - Toffoli moved again for less

Who cares about Toffoli, this guy is a upgrade on Lindholm. I've been saying for months now this guy is a star and there is more to come. I think he is a legit 40 goal man who plays both ends and is a legit #1 center now.

I was told my claims were "Bonkers" by some but I still think this guy is a star in the making and Conroy's first trade is an all time great trade in Flames history.

What's the starting point for his next contract? Mangiapane wanted a number in the high sixes to sign long term. Wonder if 6.5 x6 would get it done for Sharky.

The good news on faceoffs is that it's one of the hockey skills players can really get better at with experience and practice. He may never be a FO stud, but I expect that if he plays C more regularly, he will end up close to 50%.

Steinberg has mentioned a few times that Sharangovich has been working extremely hard on his faceoffs, studying it and everything. I can see he's improved a bit, but that's not a skill you're going to master in a half a season.

I'm happy to see he's playing a good two way game thus far, and that the offense has taken off again after a slow start following the initial switch to C. He might just be a long-term center option at this rate.
