Default Science Fair

Hi DataDoxy,

My wife is a Gr. 5 teacher and just went through the whole Science Fair show downtown for her class (there were other grades there too).

Was just curious your take on the science fair?

I remember when I was in the grade 3 Science Fair, I found that only half the kids did the projects themselves whereas half the class it seemed the parents did the entire thing.
There was even one girl whose project was on the Theory of Relativity. I mean c'mon parents, at least make it look like your child came up with the project idea.

I like the idea of the science fair... kids showing what they have learned in a way that lets them display their work is fantastic. However, it has its flaws.

I really love the new Maker Fairs that are happening today. Kids need to be able to create, play and tinker to learn. Showing what they know is important too and I live it when they can do this in a way that is not only on a "test".
