Eating crow for Jones
Man I've hated this guy for so long, I don't really know what to do now that he had a decent season and has somehow come up clutch for us in the playoffs.
Using his body, playing physical, scoring goals and being a good example for Ferland. Could the unthinkable happen and we actually re-sign the guy?
Regardless I have to eat some crow because he has been damn good lately.

Most people were complimentary of his play this season. I was pretty harsh on him last year but he was/is very good this season.

In my opinion, when he's healthy more times than not he is a factor. That being said he is almost always hurt.
But Jones is playing excellent hockey right now and providing leadership for our young guys. Good for him

I think Jones has always been a decent addition. He's just been unfortunate because it takes him a while to get going after injuries, and once he gets going, he gets injured again.
I love the way he explodes up the wing. I could definitely see him getting another contract

As injury prone as Jones is, I wouldn't mind seeing him re-signed to a 1-2 year deal at the right price. We have enough youth to step in when he's hurt. If nothing else, he seems like a playoff performer which is great. It makes sense too. He's not scared of getting injured when everything is already on the line in these huge games.

The thing about Jones is that you have to accept that he is not the guy people thought he had potential to be, and he is overpriced.
Fortunately for the Flames, he's the perfect fit. We have lots of salary/cap space. We have skilled forwards. We need a big body who can muck it up a little and wear the other team down a little. That's what Jones has become for us, and he's excelled at it.
If we were up against the cap, you can guarantee Jones would be the whipping boy.

On the Stajan goal last night, watch him clear the front of the net, taking two 'Nucks out, after taking the initial shot to give Stajan all the time he needed to make that excellent shot. That's what we need from Jones.
One of the biggest knocks against him is that he doesn't use his size effectively. He's a fairly big boy, 6'2" and ~ 215 lbs.
If he can keep that up he's a huge asset for this team going forward.

When Jones can stay healthy, he's a good depth player for the Flames.

Think Tanguay, who hasn't done anything in the last 8 years without Iginla on his line, who was traded basically for Jones straight up, with the same term and same $ remaining, would be doing all this, in a physical series?
Tying goal Game 1, on ice for winning goal.
3 points last night. 5 points in 6 games this series.
These are the types of guys you need in playoffs as unsung warriors.
Win.

Jones had a way stronger impact this series than Tanguay did in his two chances as a Flame. He is an expensive third liner, but it's a luxury that the Flames can afford. Plus when his deal is up the team should have other young guys pushing to get into the lineup. Enjoy his contributions now, he could be next year's Glencross.

I like him plenty, but I'm seriously hoping guys like Shore, Hathaway, or Poirier can take over his roster spot by 2016 without us missing a beat, because signing a 31 year old whose game is effective only when he's moving his feet is kind of scary.

The fact that guys like Gaudreau, or Monahan never got a whiff of his (Tanguay) attitude tells me yes. The SOB part was dicey, but the Flames survived that aspect of the trade.

Jones was as advertised when the Flames acquired him. When he played like power-forward, he was very effective. Then he would get hurt, and return playing like something else and being ineffective. This is what Colorado fans warned the Flames about, and it seemed pretty damn accurate.
This season I think the biggest difference is that he has stayed healthy. He drove possession pretty well last season for the most part (which was about the only good thing about him), but this season he has actually been really good in all areas of his game. I thought we would see the same David Jones as last season - the inconsistent one - but this season he has just been 'on' the entire way.
Has proven to be a very important player for the Flames as him and Bouma (before Ferland) were the only two physically imposing players who could skate on the team.

Hes one of the few power forwards we have on the team. I would not mind bringing him back at a reasonable price

The knock on Jones was never his effort. He's just always injured and it really disrupts his flow. But when he's on, he's on. I think he's had a big effect on Ferland also. Ever since those 2 have been together in the playoffs, they've been dynamite. Similar to how Huds is , Jones is a great vet

He's looked much better than he did at times last year. I would like to keep him for a year or two in an ideal world.
But, with Ortio, Gaudreau, Monahan, Russell, and Giordano coming up for raises after next season, I think he probably walks.

We are in the playoffs. Colorado isn't. Very simplistic but the results speak for themselves. Did Jones push us over the top? No. Did Jones contribute to the never quit attitude? Yes.Would Tanguay? No.
