I'd bet money on the captain being an AHL veteran like Laing and Arsene were.

What about Baertschi?
If hes not in the nhl next year I can see him being a legit candidate for the captaincy. Hopefully being named captain he can show hes worthy of a full time nhl job. It could potentially make him a better all around player and be a lot more consistent, just look at Giordano. I wouldn't be surprised if hes named captain, he has the most nhl experience of anyone on the roster and he could use that and show what it takes to get to the nhl.

I'd be very, very surprised if he was named captain. I'm not in that room, so I'll never know, but I don't really see anyone looking at Baertschi to set the temperature or day the right things in the dressing room. Maybe he'll be that guy one day, but I doubt it's now. Can PMM comment?

I disagree. Baertschi is still a boy among men. Which at 21 years old, is still completely understandable.
He's not mentally prepared to be a captain of a team. He has alot to learn at this level of the game as well as how to deal with the pressure of being a 1st round pick and having high expectations of you. I would also have concerns as he's shown before that he has difficulties with pressure being put on him (either by himself or others) and I think after the year he had this past season the last thing we want is to slap a C on him and tell him to carry the AHL team on his shoulders. We would destroy him at that point. I don't think he'd last half the season before having some sort of meltdown and potentially destroying his career.
Maybe later on in his career he pulls a Backlund and comes out of nowhere to be considered a leader and all that, but right now it's just not a feasible thing to do. The C belongs on a number of guys in that room before him.

AHL captains are usually guys who are unlikely to get called up to the NHL for any significant length of time.
It will likely be a veteran who is signed to an AHL contract.

Yeah I kinda figured that, I just looked at what the roster could be and didnt really see a clear cut favorite for captain. I could see Locke being a reasonable choice though
Or maybe they dont even name a captain, they'll just keep 3 alternates.

I think you are confusing Olson and Bancks.

Yea, I was picturing Elson in my head, said Olson and meant Bancks.
The brain and fingers were not speaking to each other properly.

Yeah, no way Baertschi becomes captain. I just don't think he's got captain material in him.
A captain is either a 'rah rah!' type of guy or an example on the ice (like Gio). At this point, Baertschi is neither.

Agreed. Of the current roster players who do you like as captain?
I like the Hanowski idea, he has been captain before in college and he works hard. From the segments of Heat TV he seems to be a good guy in the room and the players like him. He's been involved in charity stuff, like when he cut his hair. He is also probably going to spend over 80% of the season in the AHL.

Treliving confirms that Heat goalie coach Jordan Sigalet and strength and conditioning coach (Mike Thomson I think?) will be moving to Adirondack.
Expects Huska's assistant to be announced in the near future.

I am seriously pumped for Adirondack fans. This team that is going to be iced is going to be damn good and exciting to watch. I love that our farm team is not in a market where they will be loved by more than a few hundred people!
Can't wait for hockey season!

Very excited about this team.
However, they have to find some experienced D. They have lost all of the vets (Breen, Smith, O'Brien and Billins) and now only have the kids (Wotherspoon, Sieloff, Kulak, Culkin, Cundari and Acolatse).
Tons of talent in that group, and plenty to be excited about. But it's a long season and they need a couple vets to anchor and stabilize things for when the inevitable rough spots hit.

To be honest, I can't see anyone on the current roster being captain. Maybe it's just because I'm so used to veterans being captains, but I just can't see anyone being a captain.
If Bancks comes back, he'd be the most likely.

Yeah no doubt; Sieloff's return, Wotherspoon wisened up and playing top minutes, the Kulaculkin tandem I think will be on the AHL - forgot whether they were eligible though. Cundari just got signed, Acolatse the face-puncher, the rest.
Problem is, the ultimate guru defence coach is now the new head coach of the Rockets, so while we've got a solid head coach, the team in Glens Falls isn't going to become the NHL d-man factory we originally thought.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Former KGN Frontenac head coach Todd Gill expected to resurface today as asst coach of CGY's AHL farm team in ADK. Ryan Huska is head coach.
Gill was fired by Gilmour after being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs against Peterborough with a 3-0 lead.

Flames say new Adirondack asst coach Todd Gill -- vet of 1,000+ NHL games, will be primarily responsible for development of team's D in AHL.
