Sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen. Dogs, drunk people and food in a small space, what could go wrong?

Wow, would that ever go down big, witnessing a dog hunched over at the next table dropping a big pile of steaming, smelly poop while you're eating a meal.

It seems to me I heard fairly recently that they allow dogs in restaurants in Australia.
If I was at a restaurant that allowed dogs and one took a dump at the next table I'm positive that I'd get up and leave without paying regardless of the stage of the meal. I would also make sure the server knew why I was leaving and that it was the reason the restaurant would be covering my bill.

Not being a human is a big win for dogs.

Everybody has the option to go or not to go to Ranchmans to drink /eat on the patio. Nobody is being forced. Not too different than most of us staying away from certain bars/restaurants because we don't like the usual clientel.

Don't like dogs... don't go there. No skin off my ass.

I love dogs but the odds of a dog taking a dump in public are usually higher than the clientelle of most restaurants.

Won't change the likelihood of me going there one way or the other.

I think it's awesome.

How many restaurants and bars are there in Calgary? Hundreds? A thousand? At all but one of them you have virtually zero risk of encountering dog crap on the deck. If dog crap is a major concern for you, you only have this one place to scratch off your list when deciding on where to go to eat/drink. I can't believe people would whine about this!

They had a news story on Global earlier, apparently lots of other bars/restaurants have applied also.

I don't know if I'd go that far.

So is Ranchman's going to be serving Korean food now? Instead of BYOB it's BYOD?

I was in Victoria and they allowed dogs on the patio. No problems as the dogs were lying on the ground. Chances are the pet owners who take their dogs with them are the responsible owners with well behaved pets.

I don't put up with those either.

We have a friend who trained assist dogs and as a result had one in every restaurant she was in. There was never a problem with the dog dropping a deuce. We were in Silver Star this summer and every patio/restaurant there had at least one dog in it. Never saw a problem.

I also suspect there would be some provision for the bar/restaurant to refuse service if the dog was acting aggressive.

When you think of it, most families who have dogs, eat with them present. I know my dog is generally found lying on the floor next to the person who is most apt to drop food...usually my wife.

It sounds, from the link posted, that the owner has all the bases covered, as far as potential problems are concerned.
