Butler with a handful of nice plays in the period.

Agreed. Brodie could be, but still isn't quite where Gio is defensively.

Flames made the Wings look like a blind peewee club on valium.

Agreed. The way I see it is the little bit of youth we have should have a chance to go up against the best. Stepping up in a challenge works wonders for morale.

Oh good. No late goals allowed?

Serious note, that was a great 1st period. Smart defensive play in our zone with active sticks, and we're being a (little) less fancy with offensive plays in the zone and getting pucks on net.

Anyone else really like the Wideman trade/signing?

He has added a really differnent element back there.

More of that, please. I think I needed that period more than the Flames did.

Great first period. Hopefully they don't sit back and think they've won this game though, Detroit is going to come out swinging in the second.

-Get Stajan off of the PK. His Faceoffs are embarassing!

Oh he still shows his inexperience. But Giordano should be our #2 guy, or perhaps even #1, and Wideman has been noticeably better.

Brodie has been playing great, and is showing a lot of growth and great potential. I put him ahead of Giordano RIGHT now.

Wideman brings what Babchuk had brought 2 years ago for us. Except he's 4 times better at it.

Pretty quiet in this thread, Flames must be winning.

I've certainly enjoyed Wideman. He's miles better than I expected.

I am liking Bouwmeester's play, he jumped up on the rush, cross-checked somebody, he dropped to his knees and blocked a shot. I don't remember him doing any of those once last year.

Absolutely. He along with Hudler and Cervenka are great building blocks.

Solid road period. Cammy and Jarome steppin' it up!

Kipper looks 200% better than the last couple games.

I think a road trip is what the doctor ordered for the team.

My only beef is with Tanguay, shoot buddy!! Guhh. Still forcing those passes like no tomorrow. No need to be over-the-top fancy just cause you're in detroit's house.

As for DET, Zberg is pesky as always. Can't seem to knock the puck off that guy's stick..

If I had $150 and someone pointing a gun to my head to spend it, wouldn't hurt to have something nifty (if not a bit of a basic novelty item) like this.

I'm seeing what I was expecting from Wideman's offensive game so far... but have been really surprised by his defensive game too. Much better than I feared.
