Make the playoffs.

See some maturation in the all-around games of the young core (Monahan, Gaudreau, Bennett, Tkachuk, Hamilton), especially discipline and play away from the puck.

I tend to think that with the amount of salary coming off the books this summer the roster is most likely to be better than last year, and definitely not any worse. Last year's team floundered to start the season, were plagued by stretches of poor goaltending and statistically underwhelming returns from a significant number of players. As of today the Flames should be a playoff team; that projection should be a minimum expectation.

I expect the Flames to make the playoffs. But I don't expect them to have home ice and I don't expect them to win a round. They certainly could exceed those expectations and I hope they do. They could finish ahead of the Oilers too but objectively speaking I don't think they should be expected to do so.

Mike Smith providing us with the consistant goaltending we've been missing.

Ferland establishing himself as a power forward on the top line.

A better start to the season and consistancy throughout.

This is so important. Another poor start will result in quite a bit more pressure than last year.

Smith's ability to be a true number one and rebound from a shaky performance from game to game will be key.

So only another couple of years away (at least)..... again.

Trelivings window to win is open right now. It's his coach, his goalie his core his draft picks starting to come up. The rebuild is in the part where success or failure is 100% result based. Excuses and moral victories aren't good enough anymore.

~100 points.
Don't get dominated by the Oilers.
Win in Anaheim.
Minimum 7 games of playoffs.

When your 2 best forwards and your 3 best D are no longer on their ELC's how is it not your "window"?

Once more contracts come up your window closes more and more...

Yeah, while I don't think this could be argued to be the peak of their window by any stretch, I think it is fair to say that the window has opened and that there is no reason to think that it couldn't all come together for them, at any point from now going forward.

I don't think it's any kind of a disaster if it doesn't all come together this year, but I think we are at the point where we should be thinking that the right trade, the right signing, the right kid stepping up, and this team should be capable of elevating to full contender status.

I think we are at the 'we need one more piece, one thing to happen, and everything can fall into place' stage. For some teams this can take a while, like it did with Nashville and St Louis.

LA was an example of a team that had lots of good pieces and then it suddenly all fell into place right at the right time.

The Flames window for regularly making the playoffs is definitely open now, but with the age and experience of most of their core players I would say there is another year or two before their window to be a championship team opens. I think the "window" is different for every team—the Penguins have only one impact forward playing on his ELC, and they seem to be right in the middle of theirs.

But there has to be some latitude for development of these pieces individually; a three year rebuild from start to finish is fairly unprecedented. Furthermore, I fundamentally disagree that Mike Smith is "his goalie." Mike Smith is a competent placeholder for a more permanent solution in goal—this is one of the reasons why this Flames team is not quite a finished product.

My expectation is that fans realize that Bennet is what he is a 20 goal 40 point player; which is not a bad thing.

INB4 he's only 20

Of all the expectations for a Flames fan to have, this one is weird.

This is a great summary of my expectations today.

Pittsburgh was being talked about like they should rebuild again before Sullivan came onboard. Crosby was on the decline, no prospects or picks in the pipeline, wasted picks on Kessel, etc.

Mike Johnston nearly closed that team's window on his own with a garbage system.

As for the Flames, I expect them to make the playoffs and actually win a game or two this time.

They may be freshly out of their ELCs, but are they in the performing prime of their careers yet, age wise? No, which is where Textcritic's "couple years away" sentiment comes from.

It's fully reasonable to expect perpetual playoff appearances now that our young core is expected to perform and are being paid such, and most of CP would agree with that - but a serious window to actually win a Cup probably won't happen until the core is in their physical prime and at the peak of their careers.

To play better than our jerseys look. Wait, they could finish dead last in the league and they would achieve that level of success. Sigh.

My expectations are a non wildcard playoff spot and at least a trip to round #2. All this hinges on getting Stone back and adding one more similar d man. And maybe a rw do Ferland is nowhere near the top line.
