Yeah you don't mess around with Ferland.

Byron, Colborne, and Chiasson are all players worth the gamble of losing so you don't get saddled with a bad arbitration result. Can you imagine what Colborne might have received in arbitration? Yikes.

Ferly has a very unique skillset around the entire league, let alone just the Flames.

He has already signed a contract to play in Europe next season, so it was really just a formality that maintains the Flames' rights to him for another year in case he decides to return to North America after next season. It won't cost them anything.

I could only find a rumour about him signing in Europe

I've been mulling this over the past few days. I really don't think there is enough room for chassion and think this is the right move. I'm a big fan of asset management but how much value does he really carry? 4th at most.

Also lots of people penciling in janko in to 3C right off the hop. I say move Tkachuk up with Gaudreau and Monahan on the left side sliding Johnny on the right. Give Janko ES reps with Backlund and Frolik. Bennett then gets Ferland and Lazar.

No need to go and make another Brower-like mistake in free agency. Only move I think I'd support in FA is Williams or Marleau on a 1 or 2 year deal.

Tkachuk-Monahan-Gaudreau
Jankowski-Backlund-Frolik
Ferland-Bennett-Lazar
Bouma-Stajan-Brower
Hamilton-Hathaway

No problem if Chiasson walks. The Flames have too many forwards and his goals are easily replaceable.

I hope not. Yeah, he's not terrible by any means, but still, they can easily do wtihout him.

Chiasson is so soft and doesn't have the skill to make up for it. I take Hathaway 10 times out of 10.

Hathaway, if nothing else, is a great pest.

Completely disagree. Once he was put in bottom 6 role he was a very effective player.

Hathaway is a bubble player that's lucky to be playing in the NHL at all. Chiasson is an established NHL'er who'll get a contract somewhere.

We're talking about the difference of 8 career points and 100+ career points here, for players of roughly the same age. Chiasson is significantly more skilled than Hathaway.

Whatever...

This team can do without Chiasson. Plus, it's not like they can just get rid of Brouwer or Stajan at this moment.

Chiasson's not a bad player, but they don't need him either.

I approve of all of this. Not against Chaisson coming back but only on a very cap friendly deal, glad Treliving seemingly sees it the same way

No disagreement there. I think he's useful, but I won't cry if he's not back.

Well, theoretically there are always options, but I agree that it's not very likely.

They can however bury Bouma to the minors, which opens a spot. If Versteeg signs elsewhere that's another spot. Chiasson is hardly an allstar, but there are a lot worse options for the 4th line.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Bennett - Jankowski - Lazar
Shinkaruk - Stajan - Brouwer
Hamilton, Hathaway

Giordano - Hamilton
Brodie - Hamonic
Kulak - Andersson
Bartkowski

Smith
Rittich/Gillies

Current roster if the Flames don't make another move to improve. Top line worked better with Ferland then it did with Chaisson. Second line re-united as you don't mess with success. Third line is the wildcard in potential.

Chaisson had his numbers last year inflated by playing on the top line and on the powerplay. Ferland quickly surpassed him in goals once Chaisson was dropped to the bottom 6. Even Brouwer past Chaisson in goals in the latter part of the year.

I see the Flames adding to the defense because I don't think you want to play Kulak and Andersson as 3rd pairing for the season in the mix with Bartkowski.

It is time the Flames bring up Jankowski and reward him for his play in Stockton just like the Penguins rewarding Guentzel for his play.

Very happy they qualified Hathaway, Kulak and Wotherspoon. Not disappointed they did not qualify Chiasson. We needed to make room for Lazar, and Jankowski

As much as we all like Stajan, it is the right time for the Flames and Stajan to part ways, although I doubt that there is any market value.

It is more of a top-nine.

Wouldn't surprise me if Chiasson wasn't qualified because the Flames are signing Foo... supposedly a team offered him an NHL spot.

I would have stopped at replacement level. If he comes back it should be on a 2 way contract.
