Is our scout Jim Cummins the former NHL tough guy or different person, same name?

Same same
Been with us for a good stretch now, actually think he's been a big asset for the scouting group.

yup, Todd Button said after the draft that Cummins "fought for Fox all year". At the 1:20 mark.

Yeah, but wait until he has to face the big NHL forwards.
Too soon?

Now you've got me picturing Cummins pounding on the other scouts, then trooping over to the penalty box for five minutes.

You could say he was Cummin for Fox.
I'll leave.

Insane. Those offensive numbers are unbelievable. It's not all that often you see forwards in the NCAA making that much of an impact.
Tempering expectations maybe, but it sounds like he could be a Dan Boyle for us. The Flames drafting has been very strong recently.

Just a quick update on Fox. He's currently 3rd on his team in scoring with 2 goals and 17 assists in just 13 GP. He's the only defenseman in the top 8 and the only freshman in the top 9. He's second on the team in +/- at +12 (one behind the leader) and has had only 2 games where he's been a minus player.
Nationally he's 8th in scoring among freshman and the only defenseman in the top 15. In fact he's the 5th highest scoring defenseman in the NCAA regardless of college year.
This kid could wind up being a homerun 3rd rounder. Still has a long way to go but the early returns are fantastic. Kid's a beauty.

What impresses me even more than his NCAA stats was his rugged compact play at the tournament.
He reminds me of Andrew Ference. The Flames/Bruins version.

I have to admit, the World Juniors tempered my excitement a bit, which is a good thing. His numbers in the NCAA are pretty insane for a freshman but against the best in his age group in the tournament, he definitely wasn't close to being dominant. This isn't to say that hes no good - it's clear potential is there, just saying the tourney over the holidays kind of put my expectations and excitement back in line to reality. Hope the kid continues to develop!

They gave him a pretty limited role - really a 3rd pairing d. Still put up 3 points in the gold medal match, including a beauty assist on the tying goal.

he's our NCAA/USHL scout. Gillies and Gaudreau were his discoveries iirc. He also really went to bat for Tim Harrison.

Adessa was the one who wanted Harrison:

Quote:
* 157. C Tim Harrison (six-three, 175, Dexter Prep): “(Scout) Mike Addesa pounded the table for this guy . . . all through our meetings, all through the year — ‘This guy is a good player. He’s big. He’s strong. He skates. He’s physical.’ He liked him so much and he had so much conviction about this guy being a player, we just said, ‘That’s your spot. Do you want to take him now?’ And he said, ‘Absolutely.’ ”

Phew! Bullet dodged on the resume of Jim.
Thankfully Mike was let go by the Flames shortly after and followed John Weisbrod to Vancouver.
