Dirty play. I'd say a fine coming.

But it felt ok. Like we got one back for Reg cross checking Hudler a few years ago

Everybody keeps saying it was a dirty elbow, but I've yet to see a replay where you can see his elbow hit Doughtys head.

Last night on my pvr I went frame by frame and it looked like he went to do a reverse hit and his shoulder or the back of his arm made the contact.

Has anyone seen a good replay yet?

I have no idea what he gets / deserves. The NHL has zero consistency and rhyme or reason.

That said, it's kind of sad reading some of these comments that applaud the actual act.

I love the player, but didn't like the play.

I think above all, the point I'm not seeing raised enough is that he doesn't only walk the line, he walks it as a teenager. One's judgement at that age is always going to be questionable so I don't really hold it against him for flirting with acceptable line. I just hope he learns he can be a pest and play with edge without administering a d-bag cheap-shot. Love his overall game and think he's going to be a valuable commodity moving forward. Everyone outraged across the league would love to have him, and for good reason.

That said, this particular play was a clear headshot and that has no place in the game. If it happened to one of our star players we'd be furious. It's an absolute joke to acknowledge that and then turn around and defend this single play. It's outright Canuck-fan like.

Hoping the result of this is that he'll learn he can play with a nasty streak / walk a fine line without cheap-shots.

He certainly targets the head.

That's because he did it to a Canuck. You have to literally straight up murder one to get a suspension, and even then it is only if you have a prior suspension history.

Kadri's was worse. This is still something that is indefensible no matter how much mental gymnastics you try and do. This is the type of #### early Matt Cooke did with the Canucks.

Yeah no.

A dumb play, but not Matt Cooke levels of stupidity.

I think this reverse angle gives a good enough look at it:

https://twitter.com/DennisTFP/status/843648175277658113

It's probably a few inches above the elbow, but the arm comes up to show that was the intent.

Yeah, thats the angle I hadn't seen.

I agree, it looks like some intent from that one. Won't be surprised if he gets a game for it.

I still maintain it's a 2 minute penalty at most, but seeing as how the NHL called a hearing they will likely give him a fine. The only reason they give him the fine is because they can then classify him as a repeat offender if he does something else.

When you watch the slower mo part at the end of this clip, it becomes obvious that Tkachuk could sense Doughty coming at him, and he raises his arm to try and hold him off - it was in no way an intentional hit to the head. His arm does come in contact with Doughty's head, but was first and foremost a hockey play.

FWIW Ray Ferraro has been banging the drum for suspension on twitter since the incident.

My only problem with the play is that Doughty didn't have the puck. Should've been interference, or maybe roughing. Pearson and Brown did worse last night. NHL is a gong show.

At the end of the day, someone will spin the wheel of justice and something will definitely, probably, maybe happen... Or maybe not.

If Tkachuk had kept his hand on the stick and done the same play, its probably a non issue

I hate predicting punishment from the league because it's extremely tough to figure out what the going rate for anything is, but I'll say this:

He's been spoken to already by the department of player safety this year and let off with a warning. There will be no warning this time, especially for such a clear head shot. Those of you thinking he'll get off with a warning are kidding yourselves.

I said 1 game because I think it deserves at least that much for a guy that already has a reputation around the league.

I like Tkachuk and he plays with a edge but he makes some plays that are kind dirty. The thing is he has to be ready for it as well because opposing players are going to start doing it against him as well.
