French Guiana made the unusual decision of starting Florent Malouda in their Gold Cup clash against Honduras on Tuesday, despite CONCACAF previously ruling the 37-year-old ineligible for the competition.

The ex-Chelsea star, who won 80 caps for France and played in the 2006 World Cup final, was born in the overseas French territory but is cap-tied to Les Bleus.

Because they are a member of CONCACAF but not FIFA, Malouda has previously been able to represent French Guiana -- he helped them win bronze at the Caribbean Cup in June.

they have a function for all draws. Canada's poor ranking gets them into difficult Gold Cup and WCQ groups (having to play extra rounds)

It's also difficult to book friendlies as there are calculations for beating high ranked teams in high ranking confederations so who wants to play a lower ranked team for little reward?

Canada got 331.5 points for beating Curacao last week

3 points for a win
x
1 point for a friendly
x
200-70 (Curacao's ranking is 70)
x
0.85 (CONCACAF Coefficient)

playing French Guyana didn't count

Canada got 443.7 points for the draw against Costa Rica last night.

1 point for a draw
x
3 points for Continential Championship match
x
200-26
x
0.85

I'm aware of how they are calculated.

I don't see why UEFA couldn't have it's own.

Yoiu won't convince me or anyone that Switzerland or Poland are the 5th and 6th best teams in the word or 3rd and 4th best in Europe.

they do!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_coefficient
and http://www.footballseeding.com/natio.../ranking-2017/

it will be used to seed the teams in the new 2018/2019 League of Nations.
Currently Switzerland is 7th and Poland 9th.

Disappointing, but completely understandable.

Dutch are just in shambles. I'm not sure Janssen has touched the ball the entire half.

good to see Fosu-Mensah get a chance and do well against Lemar. But man, that Dutch team is terrible.

Of course Lemar scores a beauty once he's definitely not going to Arsenal. They can't have nice things.

bad loss but the Dutch got bailed out by Bulgaria beating Sweden today

still only 3 points back of 2nd, they need to run the table to have a chance but if Sweden had won they were out of it

Have to beat Bulgaria sunday and win at Belurus and at home to Sweden in October

In other news, Germany haul their own butts out of the fire after what was pretty lackluster.

And Poland got gutted by Christian Eriksen. I am told that other Danes did attend the proceedings but that their contributions were largely not needed.

I know I shouldn't be surprised but eff you SN for putting Spain Italy on SN World and leaving me to decide between the equally enthralling Finland Iceland or Georgia Ireland games.
