My guess is no, but to what extent is this bigger? Does Treliving see this kid making the team? Or does he just like the addition of an upper tiered prospect on the heels of the Hamonic trade?
Time will tell.
I don't get too jacked about college free agents generally, but I do get that if you sign 6 of them over three years you might get one player that can play in your top 9 and have an above average impact.
I remember Gaudreau (different case, drafted) coming out of college and obsessing over his NHLe and wondering if it would translate (it has). Then he goes to the Worlds and it seemed pretty obvious he wasn't going to the AHL.
I see him Jankowski, Shinkaruk, maybe Poirier, Klimchuk, Mangiapane all battling to force a decision. Don't see more than one of them doing it.
|
Agreed, but I do think we might see 2 make the big team. Jankowski/Foo would add a ton of skill to the team, depending on the status of Chaisson/Versteeg as UFAs and perhaps what they do with Bouma,.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

I typically do not get overly excited about college free agents, however, considering where the Flames are at and the fact that they no longer have many high draft picks for the next 2 years, this is a pretty big signing.
At this point you just cross your fingers and hope that between Jankowski, Foo, Shinkaruk and Klimchuk that one of these guys can break through in a big way in the upcoming season.

Foo has quite the stat progression. Same age as Monahan and Jankowski basically, the year after his draft year played AJHL with a .5ppg, then popped up to basically 1ppg the next year. Underwhleming stats for three years in college until last year when he popped again.
I'm glad we were able to nab another prospect considering the picks the Flames have given up recently, I think we're looking at a poor-man's Gaudreau in Foo, which isn't terrible by any means. People might have to pump the brakes on first line talk though.

That just means that this thread is a public service. We should embrace anything that facilitates less Gene Principe.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Should we be checking on Gene Principe today? He must be on suicide watch knowing the Oilers weren't signing Foo.
This also begs the question: What horrors await you on Gene Principe's voicemail message?
