Default December 12 with five games.

The Sunday OOT features western conference teams in each game.
We know Califlames will be watching his team try and stop the Avalanche from scoring seven goals again.

Blues are only dressing 11 forwards and 6 D because they have no cap space to call up a replacement for Kyrou. Four of the forwards started the season in the minors, and Jon Gillies is in net.

Ducks should be in first place be the end of the night

Gillies has played well. Made a great save on a 2 on 0 with Zegras and Lindholm

What happened with Nathan Walker? A hat trick the other night and a goal and an assist so far tonight.

Did he get a care package of Vegemite from back home or something?

That's 4 goals in 3 games for Walker after being called up, more than doubling his career total/Aussie scoring record to 7.

Lomberg laid out an Avalanche player and knocked him clean out. Pure hockey play, clean hit...the kid just got ####ing rocked. Carried off on a stretcher.

Hard to see, but very little was done wrong by Lomberg.

Jacob McDonald from the Avs is stretchered off after a hit from Lomberg. Seems clean to me.

Well I’m willing to listen to arguments that Lomberg should have held up. I’m really not sure.

But you can’t play hockey with your head down. That is true starting when you’re about twelve. Bad things will happen.

Yeah, I mean his head is a little down, but he's looking right at Lomberg's direction and sees him coming. Lomberg hits him square in the chest.

This is just what happens when players collide at high speed. Nothing to see here. Just feel really bad for the kid. He was just called up to play.

Saros gets the shutout as the Predators win 1-0 in regulation time. That is a big road victory. Tomasino scored in the second period and the Predators played hang on after that.

But why does he need to hit him THAT hard. The only intent of hitting someone that hard is to hurt him. And then we act surprised when it happens?

Just skating fast to close the distance and make a play on the forecheck.

Look, I get why you feel the way you do, but this is just one of those things that happens with players moving as quick as they do these days. If you like the game fast you have to be okay with stuff like this.

Agree to disagree. There's one reason for a hit like that - to hurt the other players.
It's the same basic problem with fighting in the game. Two guys punching each other in the head, and then we feel surprised when someone gets hurt.

i agree in a fast game there will be times where there is contact where injuries happen. But that's not what happened here. Lomberg went in to finish with a massive check.

IMO you can’t assign an intent to injure to Lomberg. At least not based on the two second clip I saw.

There are a ton of hard hits in hockey every game.

Someone will ALWAYS get hurt, though. What are we to expect? It's a contact game, and it should stay that way.

We've already instilled automatic icing to avoid two guys racing into the end boards to get a puck, but this ain't that. The guy had the puck, had time to assess, and did nothing to absorb the incoming contact or at least change his body position to get out of the way.

There's nothing wrong with what Lomberg did. Players do this same play 4 or 5 times a game, and nothing bad happens. Finishing check shouldn't be illegal, and you will NEVER get rid of all the incidents like the one tonight unless you eliminate contact altogether.

I think you're a smart guy, but I just think you're far too black and white on this issue. You need a little wiggle room in your opinion.

I think 49 times out of 50, that hit ends up in a guy knocked off of his skates, with no injury, simply due to a slight deflection of the force

It’s just the physics of it. The D sees a guy coming, F tries to make the hit, D tries to evade, and he still makes the hit, but the force imparted is a fraction of the force of what a direct hit would be.

A slight move sees the player receiving the check take a part of the force, and the checking player carrying a good amount of momentum past

This is a pretty rare outcome

With this and the Trouba hits in the past week, I would not be surprised to see open ice hits eliminated completely.

This from a sport that still allows players to punch each other in the face.

All of those hits are clean IMO, but the league can't have players getting stretchered off every other night.

..,.
Disagree - the hit was excessive - “just finishing the check” (nudge, nudge, wink, wink!). Lomberg launched himself at him - he was 6-12 inches above the ice at the end of the hit, and his shoulder might even have hit the player’s head.

That's not charging, if that's your angle.
