In my opinion, if it's a clean hit that doesn't result in a penalty, any player from the other team that jumps the hitter should be given the extra penalty every time.
|
Always been that way. You used to see it far more than you do now.

Alot of the time the players on the ice don't see the complete hit, they see their teammate on the ice or hear the impact and react to that.

Does it really matter if a hit was clean or not?
Dirty hits are retaliated on because it could cause an injury, and teammates will stick up for one another.
Big, devastating hits can also cause injury, and I would therefore expect players to retaliate on those too. It never made sense to me how a player could crush someone with a hit, and then put his hands up claiming innocence. He may not have broken any rules, but he certainly meant that hit to hurt. You have to expect retaliation.
It never really made sense to me any other way, even if you ignore the very valid point above that Alberta Beef made.

Oh God. If he really was the next Scott Stevens, he would have been drafted first overall four years ago.
I've got nothing against this guy or the Flames signing him, but comparing him to Scott Stevens is just a little crazy. It's like saying Oliver Kylington is the next Nicklas Lidstrom, since they're both from Sweden.
Anyway, I've never heard of this guy before this thread, but if he plays like that in the NHL, at that size, he's going to end up on his ass an awful lot.

I am pretty sure that we are interested in him because his only atribute is open ice hitting. Makes perfect sense that those of us in here that have never seen him play have a better idea than our scouts.
I am not saying that you are implying this, just pointing out that we often forget that there are paid professionals that can probably see deeper than the surface of what a player brings.

Friedman on 960 says Healey's list is down to 2 to 3 teams and he believes Calgary is there.
He also believes Flames are in on Bowling Green d-man Sean Walker, but doen't know how much of a prospect Walker is. Thinks Sean Walker is more of an AHL deal.
stats for Walker:

Gotta think the massacre might have affected Sean Walker. People are never the same after stuff like that.

The Flames continue to make the right decisions. Having a glut of dmen is always a positive, if not for filling in for UFAs that leave, as trading chips. We are in an enviable position with a solid stable of decent dmen. If some dont work out, whatever. Move on.

I'd be extremely surprised to see a edmonton boy sign with the flames as a dman. Our depth will be way harder to penetrate, and I'd be willing to bet he grew up an oilers fan. I'm all for the signing if we can snag him tho.

That he attended Flames camp in the past has to count for something though.

Kenny Morrisson went through exactly the same thing and signed with the Flames. Too bad hasn't worked out for him.

Our D depth wasn't nearly as impressive at the time of his signing.

Didn't you hear that the oilers have the luxury of being over supplied at defense? That's why they traded one for there lack of small forwards.

Ohio State lost tonight in OT which means Josh Healey's college hockey career is over. Should expect him to sign with a team in the next couple of days.
