I'm excited to see what transpires.

That's not exactly how I heard it. He implied there was some moves that hadn't been announced but he wasn't specific about them being Flames moves or not.

I am struggling to think what assets the Flames can give up to land anyone substantial in a trade? I maybe see some minor deals and free agent signings. I think Smith was the big move this summer

Yep, I think we see Stone re-signed July 1, Johnson re-signed as the backup, and some minor chair shuffling over the summer. Not getting my hopes up for any big moves.

On possible #mnwild D trade, Fletcher is open to adding immediate player or picks/prospects that allows flexibility to pursue free agents

Just give me Stone, Neal, a minor tough guy acquisition to help offset the loss of Deryk, and otherwise some promotions from the farm.
But probably wishful thinking.

Wonder if TVR to Carolina makes it easier for the canes to move another dman... Perhaps a younger one to the Avs in a long speculated Duchene deal?

Does Methot plus the 6th pick get the 3rd pick?
Then could the 3rd plus MAF get the 2nd?
Could they then draft Patrick with the 2nd? Acquiring a top line C will be their biggest challenge and I think AGM Kelly McCrimmon drafted him in Brandon.

I don't see what we can trade for Neal unless we give up 16 and that is too rich for a 31 year old with only one year left on his deal.
I am okay bringing Stone back but also want an improved number 5 if that is the case.
I wonder if the Flames chase a free agent veteran like Marleau on a 2 year deal?

Not having Engelland and Wideman frees up a lot of cap space, but essentially three 4th liners with a ~$10m cap hit Bouma-Stajan-Brouwer stings. I wonder if one of the three at least can be moved.

I can't believe Stajan still plays in the NHL.

No. Not right now.
Given that Vegas didn't take any of them, this tells me the Flames won't be able to move any of those guys right now. Only way they might have a chance to move them right now is if they pay a price to move them that they can't afford to pay.
Way better to try and move them at the trade deadline.

Stajan isn't the worst player on the Flames (Brouwer and Bartkowski are worse) but he sure isn't very good anymore. In my mind, he now sits sixth on the depth chart at his position, behind Monahan, Backlund, Bennett, Jankowski, and Hamilton.

Bouma is definitely worse than Stajan and Freddy's a bit worse too. Brouwer is better than Stajan, but his contract is worse.

I am half expecting Stajan to be traded for draft picks. Stajan's cap hit is higher than his salary, so he might be attractive to a budget team.
If the Flames are willing to retain some salary, they might find a taker for Bouma as well

Nobody wants Stajan especially for his current cap hit. You wouldn't be able to give him away for free let alone expect draft picks in return.

Disagree with you about Freddie, he brings way more energy into the lineup, but yeah I forgot about Bouma.
