If Jooris is still unsigned by September, I wouldn't mind seeing him get a PTO. I am sort of expecting one or both of Stajan or Bouma to be moved before training camp.

You keep Nakladal and you do everything you can to move Wideman and Engelland. If there is no takers, send Wideman to the minors.

Can't send Wideman to the minors. NMC.

I will hold my judgement but I really think Ortio couldve been a solid back up for Elliot.

I actually thought Jooris was the 'easiest guy to throw away' from the three. I like Jooris, don't get me wrong, but he doesn't have Colborne's upside and ability, and Ortio could have had more on an impact than Jooris as well. Just funny how things work out sometimes.
I can't see the Flames being interested in Ortio any longer with the Johnson signing. There is no spot to put him in. He had a lot of opportunity last season, but was 'bad' - 'meh', but still had upside. With Elliot never having played a starter's season, it makes more sense to get someone a bit more established in the backup role. I also did like Ortio - just ran out of time and room to make an impact.

Move Stajan for what? Why or how would he be movable for anything worthwhile?
This team is stuck with him for now, unless either you want back another terrible contract or unless the trade is massively lopsided in favour of the opposing team the Flames are trading with.
It astounds me how you or anyone can think Stajan is movable at this point, particularly in light of the fact that Treliving could not move Mason Raymond for anything, even at 50% retained salary and eventually had to buy him out.

We need some bodies around after the season to meet the expansion draft exposure requirements. Stajan, Bouma, and possibly Jooris should meet thos requirements. Don't expect all of them to be moved.

I too was hoping the Flames would give Ortio a shot, but the goaltending clearly wasn't good enough on all levels last year, not with the Flames or with the Heat. Having confidence your goaltender is so important to the other areas of the game and it's for that reason, I'm totally on board with not bringing anyone back from last year. The Flames needed to move on.

Think Ortio gets an NHL contract? Maybe backing up Lehner?

Personally, I think Ortio is going to have to start the year in the AHL. I'm kinda hoping i'm wrong though. I'd like to see him land another NHL gig since i'm not sure if last year was truly indicative of his ability. I think he was put in a really poor situation to succeed.

I always liked Ortio and thought he'd make a name for himself here... but mostly I'm disappointed we couldn't get any assets in exchange. Clearly *someone* wanted Colborne at least.
Orts will catch on somewhere. I have a feeling he burnt some bridges refusing to report to the A when he was waived last year.

That wasn't the situation. The Flames wanted to put him on a conditioning stint, which would require Ortio's cooperation. He refused to accept it, forcing our hand.

It kinda did if I recall correctly.
During the 3 headed goalie situation he was asked if he wanted to get some games in Stockton while he was being sidelined for Hiller and Ramo and hr said he didn't want to go down again.
He was not told to report to the AHL but was asked if he wanted to go down to which he said no to.

I'm finally right about something. Leland Irving v2.0, not Kipper 2.0.

Can see why Treliving might be interested in getting Jooris back. Ideally we'd find another two top 6/9 wingers (LW/RW) whether somebody stepping up (Ferland, Poirier, etc) to push the likes Bouma/Chiasson down.
Jooris would be an easy player to plug in at the bottom line, sit out whenever you need to recharge the 120% battery and all for dirt cheap.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Brouwer
Bouma - Backlund - Frolik
Ferland - Bennett - Chiasson
Bollig - Stajan - xxxx
I believe Grant was last looking for some kind of more assured NHL position rather than working through the AHL again.
