Agreed. I kinda feel bad for Jooris as he was told to find a place in YYC at the beginning of last season. Hopefully it was a rental.
But by no means is Jooris a bad player. But throughout the season he didnt have that fire he had when he was trying to earn a job early on.
We have guys on the farm that bring as much as Jooris does, especially since they are in the same spot as Josh early on, trying to earn a spot on the big club.
Perhaps the best thing Jooris will do for the Flames is serve as a rteminder to the guys on the farm that just because you get to the show, doesnt mean you can stop doing what got you there.

We've got lots of free space now that we didn't qualify anyone. Kid deserves a two-way contract for what he did last year. If he didn't break his jaw he might have led the AHL in goals last year.

It was. He and Gaudreau rented a place.
I actually appraised the property after the season as they were prepping for new tenants and the landlord told me Jooris didn't think he was being brought back.

I think he will be okay. He cleared more than the average person makes in three decades over the last two seasons.

As long as Ortio doesn't become awesome like Kipper, I'm ok with it..
Still see some potential there with him.. Understand that BT couldn't risk it though.

Wasn't Jooris fighting injuries for a good chunk of last season? It did seem like his drive and effectiveness had kind of dropped off a bit but I wonder how much of that was health. I really like his game when he's firing on all cylinders and wouldn't mind seeing him brought back on a value contract, but if not then he is replaceable.

I believe Ortio still has upside and I would have been fine with him as the backup (especially since he would probably cost $600 - $800K)
However, there is no question that Johnson is a better goalie right now. And at $1.7M, isn't that much more money.
Considering that we also have Gillies, Riddich, and McDonald in the pro ranks, it does seem to make total sense to go with the better goalie now, and see how the prospects play out.
Hope Ortio gets signed, but wouldn't be overly surprised if he isn't.

What's back story on Ortio again? Kipper saw him or knew him in Turku? Was this kippers suggestion to draft Ortio or did they go to kipper for colour on him?
He struggled but he was a decent prospect. Hope he catches on somewhere.

I'm way more bummed about Ortio than Colborne. I'm pretty sure we saw peak Colborne last year and I'm also pretty sure we didn't see peak Ortio. I really wanted him to be successful with the flames.
Oh well, best of luck Joni Ortio!

I would have been bummed about Ortio too, if we had signed somebody as a backup at $3.5 - $4M
But Johnson is an upgrade to Ortio (today) and isn't all that much more money.
Johnson at $1.7M > Ortio at $800K
If Ortio develops into a better goalie, well so be it. Because we still have a stable full of prospects in net.

^ absolutely. Much more comfortable with the notion of Johnson playing 30ish games than Ortio, at this point.

What, Jooris isn't worthy of being pronounced with an Edmonton accent?

Edmonton has an accent? I thought that was a speech impediment.

Please don't bring back Jooris. He lost the plot and got too comfy. Move on and give Hathaway and Hamilton a shot at that job.
