Several very talented writers will undoubtedly have stories on Colborne's departure. I am not one of them. But I just wanted to make sure y'all know that it was mentioned.

Ryan Pike @RyanNPike
FWIW: Asked Brad Treliving and there's no update on Ladislav Smid right now.

not a fan of July 1st
building team on July 1st is complete recipe for disaster
can add pieces
prices get driven up and you can make colossal mistakes

we are comfortable with Troy's term
checks a lot of boxes for us
will be paired with one of our centermen
right shot on the PP

goaltending - feel a lot better about than a week ago

it is an interesting process - first year courting period wasn't in conjunction with the draft
been busy with last 2 weeks

these were the 2 guys at the top of their list in free agency
got some familiarity with Chad
since he has been here - right side has been a big hole
Chiasson gives us another right shot

if they didn't sign these 2 they weren't going to move on to the next names on their list... they were going to put their heads down and wait a bit

they are both workers (Brian and Chad)
anytime you can manage the cap (like they did with goaltenders) it gives you flexibility elsewhere

they feel they still have some room to work with (cap space wise)

have to be careful with the term with Brouwer
30 years old but only missed 7 games since 09/10

thanks Joe, not going to find a better person than joe
class act
wish him all the best
where Joe was with us contractually with us was different than what he ended up signing

don't forsee an opportunity with Joni Ortio

will circle back with Josh later today

Yeah have a feeling Colborne's agent was playing hardball with the threat of arbitration, Treliving probably played the bluff and said go to free market.

By the time Colborne lowered his asking price the bridge was probably already burned and Flames had brought in Chaisson and Brouwer.

In the end sucks for both sides. Flames lose a player for nothing, and Colborne has to leave Calgary which was his preference and doesn't get much of a pay raise.

Colborne isn't a Flame. His time here is over and done. Let's start talking more about who is here.
