There wasn't an 04-05 season, so yes, it is.

I think this thread has lost sight of the fact that not only is Larsson not nearly as good as Hall, Larsson also objectively sucks. He's not a good player. Period.

Care to back that up with something tangible?

No it won't, people need to stop saying this. It will still be Hall for Larsson. They were going after Lucic no matter what.

But getting rid of hall = cap space for Lucic?

They only gained 1.8 million in space.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Good point, but what was stopping them getting draft picks and/or prospects from the Devils along with Larsson? Don't need cap space for those sort of assets.

Yes, they will come out ahead if they emerge with Lucic and Larsson and have traded Hall, but it won't change the fact that Hall for Larsson was a crappy deal in which they got nowhere near enough value for Hall.

That vanishes over the next 2 years badly. The only really bad contract they lose next year is Ferrence. But they have to sign Draisaitl, get something to replace Yak and resign Kassian who is in a show me year. On the blueline Reinhart needs a new deal. The year after that its McDavid, Nurse and Davidson.

If they sign Lucic to a 7x6 or 7x7 they're rebuilding again in the next couple of years because they don't have any farm depth that will give them cheap good value contracts.

Don't disagree, but sadly that trading Hall was mostly for $1.8M in "space" to sign Lucic is a strange take on the trade

We're basically viewing gall. That's what this is.
Did I forget to watch hockey for the last 5 years?
When has Hall ever been considered "generational".

I like Larsson, so i dislike this trade.

I think that Larsson is a very good young defenseman, I'm not sure of his top pairing potential though because he has the offensive skills of a potato. On top of that I think that he needed a really strong partner like Green to be constantly good, and I don't think the Oilers have anything close to that.

Pronger played for the Oilers in 2006.
2006 came after 2005.
Therefore, the Oilers have had a defence with Pronger on it since 2005.
That defence with Pronger was better than what the Oilers have now.
Therefore, the Oilers have had a defence since 2005 that is better than they have now.

Geez, I can't believe how obtuse you're being about this.
