I agree but I think Joel Ward's contract will be much bigger and longer than Stewart's. If we can get Stewart on a 1 year deal, I'd take that over Ward for 4 or 5 years at 4m+ AAV.

With the glut of forwards they have that are ready to step into the lineup, I just can't see a forward being signed unless it is in conjunction with some other roster shuffling.
Every forward on that list except Joel Ward is pretty meh. I wonder if the interest in Stewart was for rental purposes at the deadline. I'm all for reclamation projects during a rebuild. But I hate the idea of Chris Stewart.

Mike Santorelli would be a guy I predict the Flames will sign.
And Chirstian Erhoff. Just a prediction. The dollars are going to be insanely stupid this year. I'm hoping a guy like Erhoff or someone similar sees what this team is doing and buys in reasonably in terms of dollars.
The rest of that list including a guy like Joel Ward who makes sense are all going to be stupidly overpaid.

Well, that would definitely make the Flames a bigger, heavier team to play against, but boy would Treliving ever have to move a lot of bodies out.
RW if the Flames signed those two forwards:
Hudler (shoots left)
Ward
Stewart
Colborne (shoots left, can play center too)
Jones
Shore (can play center too)
Jooris (can play center too)

Some GM is going to offer stupid money and term for the better free agents on that list.

Yeah, the pool is so shallow there are going to be some pretty disastrous contracts offered.
I am hoping to find the next "Hudler". Find a player that might still have breakout potential that can be signed for a reasonable amount of money.
I have my doubts that Stewart has that potential still. Ward would be a nice player, but I think he will get paid.

The Bad
You had to cringe every time you saw the Bruins trudge a McQuaid - Dennis Seidenberg pairing out there. It was ugly. These guys were constantly stuck in the mud of their own end, were not a cohesive unit when it came to moving the puck out of their end, and were just an all-around nightmare. They had nightmare game after game (that disaster in Vancouver, and the debacle at Madison Square Garden), and constantly left goaltender Tuukka Rask throwing his arms up in disgust.

I don't see him being a fit unless he's paired with one of our better puck movers. Is he good enough to play on the second pairing, otherwise I'd pass.

As for forwards, maybe Stewart if he's cheap and on a short contract. We still don't really know what we've got with Ferland, Bennett, Shore, Jooris, Granlund and even Colborne, so I'd be willing to stick with what we've got and let them develop.

Stewart on a Setoguchi-type contract: fine, I guess. Stewart on a Raymond-type contract: absolutely not. He will probably get some offers coming his way by virtue of being one of the shinier turds in the turd parade, so hopefully the Flames aren't the ones to overpay him.

Sekera I'd like on the 2nd pairing. That's the only contract I'd like to see BT sign. Unfortunately I think it's a little out of the price range for the Flames

Not sure about Stewart. Flattered to deceive on a Buffalo team where he should really have stood out.
Has had decent point totals in the past though, but we're talking 3 or 4 years ago.

I don't expect Calgary to sign any of the big fish like Sekera, Ehrhoff etc. Maybe a guy like MacQuaid or Winnik.

Thomas Vanek.
I don't understand your point. It's like saying you can only play well once you leave which means you shouldn't play well while you're there. That's not how it works.

I meant last year. They had a mandate to suck and the worst morale ever
