Level 28. Haven't played in a couple weeks. Now that I'm back to work (teacher) I won't get much opportunity. Glad I played a lot while I could!

A snorlax silhouette appeared on my tracker just as I was finishing a run. Did the tracking method where you move until it disappears from radar, turn and go the other way until it disappears etc...never found it. I wish the tracking wasn't so broken.
Hatched a porygon while I was trying to find the snorlax though, so that was alright.
Also finally hit level 21

Went to Whistler for a week and there were Eevee's like crazy over there. Was able to evolve all three types and now they are my top gang.

Is training at a gym that is already owned by your team really worth it? It seems I only add a little rep each time I fight, whereas an opposing team can take it down pretty easy. I know growing the rep means you can add another one of yours to the team, but the effort to get that extra spot seems really high.

What you want to do is fight the gym with a pokemon that has less CP the the last pokemon in the gym. You get a lot more rep by winning a fight as the "underdog".

The wife saw an Onix on her tracker when we were walking yesterday evening. It was #1 on her list. I checked mine and it was #4. We kept walking and our trackers never agreed with each other and we never strayed far from our usual path. It was her #1 and #2 for a good while, perhaps 500m, but never got higher than #4 on mine. Clearly not all is right with the tracker.

There have been quite a few times where something actually shows up that number 4-6 on my tracker.

Absolutely.
Helps a lot to use the right Pokémon as underdog as well. All have strengths and weaknesses.
We have helped hold 3 gyms for almost a couple weeks now, using same method (3 of us):
Late evening take down or raise prestige of existing out of the way gym enough to throw in a Pokémon. Put in, for example, a 600CP Pikachu. Train with 550CP Sandshrew. (Pikachu electric type, so Sandshrew as ground type works excellent). Train to raise gym to level 10 (50,000 prestige). It actually doesn't take that long with the 3 of us: Per cycle (defeat Pikachu, run away) raises prestige almost 2000 points. Can beat him 2-3 times before requiring potion, so not so heavy on resources either.
The free spots in gym will fill, and for a few days will cycle between 6 and 10 Pokémon, but will continually get stronger. Eventually, other teams just leave it alone and move to easier targets.
Mind you, we tried this about 10 times and it has worked 3 only, but the extra 1500 dust and 30 coin per day is nice.

And yes, we may be taking this a bit too far

When people mention IV % are you referring to the maximum or the average?

I read somewhere that in the current iteration of the tracker, the order of the Pokemon isn't supposed to indicate which is closest to you. It's just a list of which Pokemon are within a certain distance.

So you can narrow down to the exact IV they are for the most part.

I use this:
https://pokeassistant.com/main/ivcalculator

Then, you click on that pokemon and click on the new Appraise button.

Then you go to this:

So I am team Mystic so she says "Its best attribute is its Attack" then "Its stats exceed my calculations. It's incredible". I know its Attack is 15. I then go back to the IV calculator and I can eliminate all the possibilities that do not have 15 attack. Usually you can narrow it down exactly.

I'm sure you all know this but I wouldn't recommend you evolve your magikarps until you find one that is around 170-200. A 200 CP magikarp guarantee's it to be in it's 2k.

In a battle, when it says "effective" or "not effective" on your opponent, is that describing your action or the opponent's action? Who is being effective?
