I agree, and that's why I don't think it's time for Treliving to take some serious heat.
That being said the coach hiring looks atrocious and i'm not confident in GG going forward.

Nobody was talking about a 6yr deal when those AAVs were being thrown out.
Johnny would have been above 7M if the deal were 7 or 8 years. This has been acknowledged, they dropped term to get the number down to 6.75M AAV.

This is absolute revisionists history. Go back to the signing thread. That deal was adored by everyone here.

Firing a Jack Adams winner, failing to get Boudreau and ending up with Gulutzan was a disaster. Not the kind of mistake a team that should be on the upswing of a rebuild can afford to make.

In order for us to have landed Boudreau, he would have also needed to be interested.

As I said in the Gulutzan thread the heat is on Treliving. Outside of the horrible Wideman and Stajan could tracts he has signed every player on the team. Going off the board with the coach hire is my biggest concern. Elliott was a risk but didn't cost much and has a lot of time to rebound.
Right now this team is no where close to having a window to win open and he has signed our superstar to a 6 year deal. If the window isn't open now we have very little time to actually put a contender on the ice

Raymond was an awful UFA signing, Englland is overpaid and Giordano is a boat anchor of a contract. Giordano is not below market value in 2020, he is about 5 million above market value that year. Monahan is the highest paid forward out of his draft year but he is not the best (Barkov is).
I think it is hard to rank Treliving above painfully mediocrely bad as a GM.
|
and people think I have the bad hockey opinions
raymond and engelland were both bad, everyone knows that. the flames were supposed to be basement through this year, but gaudreau happened and Gio became a Norris level D. not a great start for Brad.
Gio is fine. He absolutely will turn it around. He'll be a great d-man at least until he is 35. there will be another round of compliance buyouts by then if need be.
monahan is the highest paid forward from his draft year because he has led his draft year in scoring. you can't go to a guy and say "hey, you're quantifiably better than all of your comparables, I'll pay you less than they got"
of course, Monahan is incredibly average in all other facets of the game, but he can score with the best of them, and scoring is what makes players money.
granlund was crap last year anyways and likely would have been lost on waivers this season. He's not better than Ferland, and GG (or Hartley) wouldn't bench Bouma in favor of him.
Brad has made a whole bunch of solid moves that all seem to be blowing up in his face right now. we're not living in irrational fear that he's going to trade Monahan for a 2nd liner and some spare parts, or one of our top prospects for a depth guy. His moves make sense.
his major, major failing so far is that he has been unable to have this team be ready for game 1 of the season. JG's contract should have been done in the summer, he shouldn't have waited until last minute to sign Versteeg and Grossmann (*pukes*). the game 1 roster should have been all playing together, building chemistry, working out kinks, no later than halfway through the pre-season. last year had the same problem with the goalie disaster. hopefully next year is better. if not, then we can restart this thread and it might actually have merit.

Fire Treliving and Gulutzan please.
I am a season ticket holder and even the Usher in the PL section that has the Santa Clause beard doesn't understand why Hartley was fired.

Eakins 2.0.
I'm convinced if you want to win you need any 2 of the following 3 in a coach. Severe post concussion syndrome that has given you an anger/anti-social personality disorder. Two pocket dawgs and or 1 flight of stairs away from a heart attack. Or a scarred, busted up leathery face from your 4th line playing days in the ECHL.
Combine any two of those, and your gonna win.
Hire a pretty boy with more invested in hair product than The average Canadian has in RRSPs, your gonna lose.

Besides Gulutzan, people are mentioning the losses of depth players as reasons to fire Treliving?

Should the Usher in the PL section with the Santa beard understand the decisions upper management makes?

Death by a thousand cuts. His reclamation projects never pan out. Even Bouma is overpaid.
