I wish the board was restricted on who could start threads. Some of these are getting painful lately.

How many NHL head coaches decide to keep running try-outs through the entire pre-season, without a single game that even remotely resembles the starting roster?
And then after all that player evaluation decides that Grossman is better than Jokipakka?
And then goes 6 games into the season and counting without a regulation win?
And their team looks wretched and shows absolutely no progress at all during that span?
If you're going to go off-piste, and do unconventional things, and make strange decisions, and the results are worst-in-the-league total failure, then you shouldn't get any rope.

You don't bring back a coach that has been fired for at least a number of years - if at all. Right or wrong, agree with the dismissal or not, you simply don't make that move. This is coming from a huge Hartley fan.
Coaches have returned to teams that they have previously coached in, but it is rare, and it requires a number of years. Randy Carlyle is back on the Ducks, but it was also a combination of the GM not wanting to let him go in the first place, and not being able to hire the guy they wanted to (Boudreau).
When you fire a coach, you expect to hire a better fit at least. Gulutzan doesn't have Hartley's experience or his track record, but given time, he may prove to be the better fit for the next 'x' years. If not, the Flames will find another suitable candidate.

Seems like people are running around like a porcupine at a balloon party, popping everyones enthusiasm for this team. Look, Elliott has not been great, but his middle name is not plywood - he will get beat occasionally and thats OK. Fans need to react more like a canoe on a small lake, no big waves. Once the Flames close down the bakery in their own end, the team will recover. On pace for only 10 wins but I bet they at least double that.

Anyone who is actually advocating bringing Hartley back is forgetting how painfully obvious it was that the entire NHL had figured out how to exploit his coaching style

I miss Bob Hartley, was sad when he was let go, now I'm angry he was let go.
It's not like the PP practices any more or anything.

Really? Look around you. I fully expect this kind of impulsivity and backwards thinking from casual fans, and in particular I expect it from some fans that post on CP. Hence why none of us run a hockey team.
With how things have gone this entire rebuild (with the exception of the playoff year), I don't know how anyone couldn't see this thread coming.

Other than the OP, has anyone actually advocated bringing Hartley back? It's been more of a comparison between the two, but even those that favour Hartley admit that you can't fire the coach yet and you certainly can't bring back the old guy.

Michel Therrien coached the habs from 2000-2003 and again he joined the habs again since 2012. I see nothing wrong having Sutter back while he's not taken by any team. I don't like how the team plays... we're missing a lot of chances over and over, not much forechecking, puck dumping and poor PP and poor in shootout. I'm not even sure if our current coach has a plan. :smh:

Before it's too late... If God exists, please bring back Hartley before it's too late and that we suffer with another year of no play off season.

I think you're thinking of the wrong Sutter brother. Darryl still has a job. Brent was awful. Darryl just never should have been kicked upstairs to the gm position.

Was Darryl kicked upstairs? Or was he the one demanding to go from coach to GM position?

Well he is still under contract, wouldn't hurt to try it for a few games...

At this point, I think it's hard to deny that Hartley is a much, much better coach than Gulutzan. And honestly, I do think the Flames are more likely to make the playoffs with him back.
But making this swap is ridiculous, especially this early in the season. The Flames would be the laughing stock of the NHL. No way it happens.
