Good teams do that all the time.

But the Flames are not a good team. They are not outplaying other good teams, and just having bad puck luck. They are getting exactly the results that they have earned.

And teams who are in a deep hole after 10 games because they deserve to be in a deep hole after 10 games? Teams who can play 2 months of hockey and never once look like the better team?

Yeah, those teams don't come back.
So we should just hand the Oilers the Cup right now because they are in first place?

Just because the Flames are close to last, doesn't mean things can't turn around. Guys like Gio, Monahan and Johnny didn't forget how to play hockey.

While I do agree it's early, let's also remember that we don't have Perry and Getzlaf.

-6% to make playoffs.
+128% we finish ahead of Edmonton at the end of the year.

I wouldn't say "smeared". They lost by 3 but out chanced the Oilers and out fancied stats'd them pretty good.

I'll hold off on gauging Winnipegs chances at playoffs for another 2 or 3 weeks, 1 game below .500 isn't anything to panic about.

Calgary though, looks lost. Coaching is brutal and the players look disorganized. The Flames just don't have the talent to overcome a brutal start (or the Jets).

I guess you can fancystat any story you want, but the Jets were embarrassed in front of their fans on their big day. There was nothing redeeming from them yesterday.

I agree it as embarrassing but when you say there was nothing redeeming about a game that they played better than their opposition and got goalied... You coming off as pushing a narrative and not interested in what actually happened

0%. I really did not expect playoffs this year. Too many marginal players taking up cap space. Until the Flames dump those players they cannot fill out the roster with NHL players. As the bad contracts begin to expire this year the Flames should begin to contend next year.

It's actually a good year to learn a new system because they were 4 or 5 players short anyway.

40% would be accurate.

They had a lengthy losing streak in the playoff year - a 9 game winless streak. We're not quite there yet. That was December. I'd say it's easier to bounce back from the earlier in the season a bad streak happens.

But can they improve their play and get results in the next 5 games when it might be bordering on too late.. that's the question.

Unless Treliving makes some moves. Or Kylington and Jankowski get called up and turn into Karlsson and Getzlaff.

Currently at 2%, but with every win it will go up 2%.

All those saying the team has a 10% chance or less:

Cash permitting, I'll fade those bets at the odds you quote. And I am a guy who ordinarily would not bet five bucks that I am alive.

Seeing as though they're off to their usual crummy start and in today's NHL it's harder than ever to recover from a slow start, I'd put their chances at around 22%, give or take a couple of percentage points

I'll bet they have a 50/50 shot. Although I do think they will make it in a wildcard spot.
