Michalek on waivers? Do flames pick him up?
Not sure if this is out there already, but is he top line material? Can we fit him in cap?

No room under the cap, even with Smid LTIR relief. Another move would be needed in addition to claiming him.

A few years ago, he was a great two-way player. But injuries have really derailed him.

if the flames want to help the team from outside of organization it will be through trade, not waivers.

Would rather a Stockton call-up imo.

If he was top line material, he wouldn't be on wavers.

I know it is rare but you never know... Huselius was also on waivers before becoming a top line player for the Flames. Wasn't Grabner also on waivers a few years ago before scoring a ton of goals?

Apples and oranges. Huselius was like 27 or 28 when we picked him up and had potential to be more elite than he had shown due to his insane hockey skill.
That was taking a chance on untapped potential, Michalek is 32(?) and everyone knows what he is, and also knows that he's trending down in a major way.

Milan is also making $4M this year. Very few teams currently have the space to add that, and Michalek is not what he used to be either.
Anyway, even if more teams could afford to add him without making other moves to clear cap space to get him, I doubt they'd be that interested in him anyway because he's not worth $4M/year anymore.

Help, save, whatever.

Hell no you should not pick him up. He is way done.
You guys should have gotten PA Parenteau. He seems to be doing well with the Devils and his cap hit was tiny.
Also saw this on twitter:
Phaneuf for Waived, Waived, Waived/Bought-out, a 2nd, and Lindberg.

And he cleared. No surprise.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
now
McBain (ARI), Bernier (NYI) and Michalek (TOR) all clear waivers. No one put on waivers today.

As a general rule of thumb, legit top line players don't find themselves on waivers
