I'm still hoping and kind of expecting they'll do away with the old jedi code in this trilogy, and the whole binary split between light and dark side. Rey could be the start of a new approach to Force, something more holistic and emotionally healthier. "There is light and dark in every one", that sort of thing.
Obviously that title does nothing to dash those hopes. Maybe Luke Skywalker is literally the last jedi, singular.

I agree with this as well. Rey will be trained much differently than his previous students. She'll be more like Ahsoka, balancing between the light and dark.

Yeah...and hows that been working out for you? Maybe thats a whole load of hokum and its time we came at this from a different perspective? Besides I wanna force choke some folks! Its weaksauce that the dark side gets exclusive rights to force choking fools.

They tried that no dark side or light side thing in the EU, and its based on you and how you want to use the force.
I'm also a fan of the idea that came out of the SWTOR game when your talking to the main villain. And he basically says some people think the force is a river in which you drown.
At the same time another villain said the Jedi see the force as their master whereas the Sith seek to enslave it, but what they do with it comes from their choices.
At the same time, I think that the cool aspect is that neither the dark side of the light side can ever be truly banished. Even if you go into a room flooded with darkness and light a candle driving off the dark, the dark still resides everywhere that there is a shadow. under your feet, under the bed under the table legs, and eventually that candle will burn out and the darkness will return for a time.
The force isn't evil, but the emotions like hatred and anger in fear force you to use the force in a negative and selfish way and once you start deciding based on the gratification of the need for power your always going to use it that way and take shortcuts. That's why you always see Jedi falling, but you rarely see Dark Side users coming back.

Luke - "Ok Rey here's our training schedule. From 8 to 9 we meditate"
Rey - "yes master"
Luke - "From 9 to 10, we run around the island with you carrying me around on your back"
Rey - "That sounds unpleasant"
Luke -"Then from 10-5 we rocket off to Coruscant to go bottle picking"
Rey - "What?!?"
Luke - "That's the best pickin time, then we'll take the money and use our Jedi Mindpowers to make more money playing bingo"

The time between TFA and The Last Jedi is actually fun now. We get to predict and wonder about what is going to happen next and that is fun for me.
I'm glad the movies got spaced out, and there's a sort of prequel movie in-between that also kicked ass.

Just watching TFA and that movie could have been called The Last Jedi with the amount of times it it mentioned. Mostly in relation to Luke Skywalker but also the last Jedi Temple.

Yeah, to me there is one jedi left, and no Sith, I don't think that Snoke is a Sith nor is Kylo Ren a Sith. To me they're just dark force users (Well Kylo for sure, I'm not sure that I believe that Snoke is a force user)

Having just spent the weekend watching the Star Wars movies with my daughter for the first time, and it being a long time since I last saw Return of the Jedi, I realized there is actually something I really hope they do in Episode VIII.
I really hope they do something with Leias connection to the Force. It's supposed to be kind of a big thing to be a Skywalker, and Luke even specifically says in RoTJ that she could train just like he did. With the way that movie ends, it seems kind of obvious that she has at some point at least tried to do something with it.
I don't want a big lightsaber scene or anything, just something to make it real that she's a Skywalker and has a special connection to the Force that has nothing to do with her brother.
