Thanks to all for your advice and consideration.
As an update to those in similar circumstances, I ended up having a second roofer, this one HAAG certified inspect our roof. Their findings were that we had indeed incurred hail damage. They in turn referred me to another HAAG certified inspector that is not a roofer ie. He has no interest in providing us with a new roof.
His findings which will be detailed in a forthcoming report will also support our claim.
So, my suspicions were correct and I am very glad that we didn't just accept our insurers findings, or get deterred by the process. While we are clearly not done yet, it seems we will have plenty of qualified support in our corner to go back to the insurance company.
We got some good advice here, so I wanted to thank all and provide an update. Many of our family and friends have seen the stress this has caused us and as it turns out some of them are with the same insurer and have indicated they will not be renewing with this company or any of their affiliates. Your insurer should provide you with peace of mind, not stress. Thanks again.
