Unfortunately, can't see us being able to afford him. He is a tank though. Elite skater, built like an ox, elite defensively, disgusting shot. Just an all around dynamo. Really reminded me of Iginla that year he put the Devils on his spine and carried them to the cup.

Don't get the hate for Kovalchuk.

I think he ends up playing in Jersey again.

How is Kovalchuk weak? The Kovalchuk I remember was built like a tank and moved like one too. He was pretty close to winning a conn Smythe in 2012.

Remember how good Ferland looked in game 1 against the Ducks? That's how Kovalchuk looks every night.

Las Vegas could use him. They're not going to pick up much in the way of scoring talent via the Expansion Draft. Short term, he's be a good fit there.

He was stellar in the KHL and Gagarin Cup this year.

Every team will be in on him and pay a premium. What can we afford to give up?

1st in 2017, Anderson and Shinkaruk?

Radulov's success might make teams a little more eager to sign Kovalchuk however Radulov is 30 and Kovy is 34.

Nah, Devils would look for a prospect or a pick. as far as I can tell from the OP, his rights can be traded and forgo the 30 vote process.

Although in this year's draft, as shallow as it is, I could part with a first for two years of Kovalchuk getting set up by Gaudreau.

Although there really is no historical data to guess a trade value of a players rights like Kovalchuk situation. It could be a King's ransom.

Edmonton makes a lot of sense

Could see Toronto as well since it's short term before they have to pay their young guys

Kovalchuk is underrated. He's an Anaheim duck type player.

Guess the only way he makes it on this team is if he plays D or goal!

Kovalchuk and Iginla were basically the same when it came to goalscoring. Kovy is one of the best goalscorers of his era. That being said, I won't begin to suggest that I have been following his play in the KHL and he IS 35 years old.

Edmonton makes no sense. They are about to dish out 17+ M for Connor and Drai.

He does check a lot of boxes for the Flames:

-- Right handed winger
-- Pure Goal Scorer
-- Big body

The guy was a pure HHOF talent for a decade in the NHL. These type of players don't just lose their skill. The Iginlas, Hulls, Shanahan's, etc. we're able to a play closer to their 40s.

If this is true, the Flames better be considering it.
