Yes, time has dulled the impact of The Day After. It’s impossible to put yourself in the mindset of someone watching that it on TV at the time, when the settings, characters, etc all looked contemporary and realistic. And that’s not even getting into the culture of the time, when fear of nuclear armageddon was always in the air the way global warming is today.
