Hopefully he can nab a spot. It won't be on line 1 to start, but he could work his way up. Brad/Glen aren't ones to gift wrap a spot like that, they'll make him work for it. I think he could earn it if he's good enough though. Sounds like a hard worker.

We needed to add some speed to the lineup, and it sounds like Foo has that. Sounds pretty good to me.

From a Coilers supporter on HFBoards:

Did we get him yet or what? Just trying to prepare that if we get him how amazing he will be and if we don't what an overhyped 4 liner/bust he will be. Right HF?

@RyanNPike Ryan Pike
It'll be a two-year entry level deal for Spencer Foo with the #Flames.

Reading the scouting reports, it sounds like he can be broken in on the 4th line if needed.

But I think the door is open and the Flames won't hold him back. They may have Stockton as the default, but we have seen players force their hand recently.

Think of this as signing Josh Jooris, with the potential to be more. So expect him to be a 3rd/4th line guy with the caveat that he could surprise.

I would assume Foo will be like most prospects his age - he will be given the chance to compete for a roster spot. It is up to him now.

I will say this though - He seems like a fairly skilled guy who plays with a bit of an edge and is really fast. Don't know about you guys, but that's a really nice complimentary player for Bennett. Bennett needs to play with someone who also is skilled and plays with some pace to their game (which is why I particularly liked the Lazar acquisition).

Glad the Flames signed him!

Watched him at winsport. Remember him standing out. The read up on him reminds me of a slightly smaller, quicker rw version of matty tkachuk. IQ. Effort. Intangiables. Vision. Confidence. Gritty.

Im very exctied to see how much better hes gotten since last prospects camp.

Not that it means much but his NHLE = 49 pts

Edit: Actually is 31 pts. Thought Union was in Hockey East.

i get the expectation police.. woo ooo woo oo, siren siren.. but in his third year at union Foo had 62 points in 38 games... josh jooris had 28 points in 39 games in a similar 3rd year... jooris never had any offensive upset.. foo showed plenty.. different players altogether.. but.. expectation police...

Pretty good interview/write-up on the player.

Foo has been the master of consistency. He has at least one point in 19-straight games and has found the scoresheet in 20 of 21. He only failed to get a point during the first weekend of the season, when Union was shut out by Michigan.

"Consistency is always something that I have worked on," Foo said. "I have struggled with it in the past. This year I have just been able to find the chemistry with my linemates and things just seem to be going in when i'm on the ice, more so than in the past."

Final choice between Edmonton, Vegas, Detroit, and Calgary, and he picks the Flames.

So much for your brand new arenas making all the difference.

add to that this tweet of his from June 13th:

"Unless there's another NHL club free-agent RW Spencer Foo's eying, he's almost surely going to sign with the hometown Oilers or Philly"

The guy has zero insight. He's a perfect reporter for the Oilers.
