I doubt it. Rogers just sucks.

I guess for me it just doesn't seem like that long ago that not every game was televised, and it was a weird struggle to try and get the other Flames games. Even when they had Pay-per-view it still wasn't 82 games. We would get excited that a game against Chicago was going to be on WGN.
So I'm just happy that it sounds like those days are still well behind us. I can put up with the broadcast quality issues; and I have accepted that the commentary is generally not geared towards most CPers who are a bit more of super-fans.

Is 11 years the length of the deal or how far behind their broadcast technology is?

You mean you don't miss paying $12/game or whatever it was instead of $20/month for all the games?
That said, I agree with the above that the Sportsnet app is complete garbage. I won't pay for a subscription again until they fix that considering the free streams (or Gem on Saturday) are far smoother.

Given the arena sponsorship in Edmonton, I don't see there being a change there, but it is interesting to see a decoupling of the Flames and Oilers announcements. With the current states of each team, the Oilers may have felt they could get a better deal negotiating on their own.
I'm curious what the money looks like on a deal like this, but I don't think those are usually disclosed for the local/regional deals.

I’m wondering how many shows will be produced, managed, hosted and be about Mavi.

It will be something like Roger’s roundup or Roger’s rink. Rhymes with bleeh.

Overall, I have easy access to and lots of coverage of the Flames.

Freeway is correct, but, they can be negotiated simultaneously. The Canucks did that in October 2022 and have both televison and radio rights with Sportsnet until the end of the 2032-33 season.

Wish they'd send the radio team on the road again, absolute bush league having the radio PBP call games off a monitor in a tiny little board room.

An 11-year contract gives Sportsnet no incentive to improve their product over that time frame and the Flames have no leverage to do anything about it over that same time frame - kind of like the national broadcast rights.

I was wondering if it was just a Calgary Flames thing, but it looks like SN did the same to the Canucks radio crew too.

Honestly, if not Sportsnet, than who else? TSN doesn't seem interested, at least not enough to dole out more cash.

Looking forward to seeing some Flames games broadcast in 4K - in 2036!
This is the worst news possible - I HATE everything about Sportsnet, and Flames broadcasts in particular

Probably not bad guesses - although I’d say probably Canadian Tire would replace SportChek (Canadian Tire owns SportChek). Maybe TD Bank throws their hat in? Or RBC?

WestJet sponsorship would be nice. Unique, local company, planes are cool. My favourite saddledome sponsor was Canadian Airlines
But yeah, who are we kidding, it'll be Rogers or Scotiabank

I can’t even remember which barn is which anymore. No sense of place, no identity. I just say ‘(insert team name)’s arena.’
Otherwise… yes SN really needs to work on their production- less glitchy, no weird compression noise (thank you AC for explaining this a while back). Hope this means we get to keep Ball, Millen and Leslie.
