I have a weird relationship with this show. It feels like a show I'm supposed to like but it's just so over the top and unbelievable at times that I find it hard to get completely immersed in it.
May is a killer I was expecting it back next month like usual
Ya, I don't understand all these shows coming out later and later. I want to watch TV in the dead of winter, not the summer. It's a little better now with so many options, but usually from Dec 20 to mid Feb there are no new shows. Makes no sense to me.

Reality is almost stranger than the show now. Which will make It an interesting watch.
I'm 2 episodes into season 5. I can't really put my finger on it, but something seems off with the show. All the manipulation and obfuscation that made this series shine is still there, but it all seems much more....obvious. Frank and Claire are less nuanced than they were previously and just play like straight up evil villains now. It's still good, just not as good. Maybe my expectations have shifted because there have been so many good series since I last watched this, but House of Cards was previously the standard bearer for good tv (for me anyway) and this new season just feels kind of watered down. Maybe it will pick up after a few more episodes.

Pretty good after 4 episodes. The only problem is that after Trump, the show has lost some realism as Underwood seems far too intelligent to be President.
Also, too funny seeing the Stockton Heat appearance.

I'm getting a bit bored with it. He is POTUS, but never does POTUS stuff except for stabbing people in the back and maybe once ever 6 episodes having a little spat with Russia.
I posted that after episode 12 I think. Somehow 13 got even worse.
I'd honestly rank that as one of the sharpest declines in a show since the last season of Dexter. Or maybe how 24 just got progressively dumber and they had to make each season bigger with dumber and dumber twists until it became almost like a parody of itself.
I rarely give up on a show but if season 6 came out next week I wouldn't have any inclination or desire to watch even an episode.
Too bad. I loved the political wheeling and dealing of the first couple seasons. It was like a constant chess match to see how Frank would out manoeuvre his enemies. Now it's like a bad soap opera.
And btw my jumped the shark comment was about
Spoiler!
secretary Durrant. Did the actress suddenly leave the show while they were half done filming or something? God that was dumb. Otherwise it is hard to explain how they included such a hilariously stupid and random twist like that. Was like they wrote themselves into a corner and figured they could just deus ex machina themselves out of it and if they just pretended her character never existed we'd all just forget about it.
From Reddit lol
"You know how the term 'jump the shark' came when fonzi jumped over the sharked while surfing in happy days? We should rebrand the term 'pushed down the stairs' in honor of this show."
And don't get me started on how random and stupid everything about Patricia Clarkson's character was. She just randomly showed up one episode and was instantly this vital character.

Just finished. Still better than most shows on TV but definitely not the best season. It started off pretty good, hit a lull mid season, then got really good again before sputtering to the finish in the last 2 episodes.
I did like a lot about the season especially Claire's arc and her finally breaking the 4th wall. Also, some of the sub plots were good including capturing the domestic terrorist and the mystery around the leak and the resulting White House paranoia. The payoff for the latter wasn't great though which was part of my main problem with the season: Frank's story. It seemed like he made a lot of decisions that went against character or were poorly explained. This includes the shark jumping Cecil mentioned.
The issue for me is the rise to power was so much more intriguing than hanging onto power and I think the writers are running out of ideas and stretching things out. Also, the murders were shocking early in the series but now they just seem like a lazy ex machina to solve all the Underwood's problems. That said the season left the story in a somewhat interesting new place and I think they can get at least one more decent season out of it.

Ya, I stopped halfway through 5 it was getting so unwatchable, but no question seasons 1-3 or so were as good as it gets. No sign of Spacey in the primary cast listing or episode thumbnails for season 6. I wouldn't doubt S6 was edited down to 8 episodes due to removing Frank Underwood as much as the story would allow- which I find a little silly tbh. That said, talk about good fortune for Netflix; that season 5 would end, before the Spacey scandal hit, in a way that could allow for Frank Underwood to have a much smaller role.
