I would agree, I don't think that this last season was strong at all and I thought that the two part finale was actually the weakest bit of TV that they've done to this point.
But its pretty hard to follow Archer Vice which was brilliant from end to end.

This season has been mostly brilliant. Although Archer being somewhat responsible with Lana is dragging things down a bit, the love/hate relationship was better when it was more hate than love.
I couldn't stop laughing at robot Barry's choice of human mask and disco kung-fu Kreiger. I might even still be laughing right now.

I didn't make it through the first episode. I probably should've given it more of a chance, but I saw the 1 out of 5 star rating and decided not to.
Wise decision.
Generally when a show is new you have to give it some rope, pilots typically...well, not 'suck' but they arent polished or fleshed out. Anyways, they're only like 22 minutes long, but man, those were 22 loooooooong minutes.
'Formulaic' is also being fairly polite.

I watched the first episode, I like the gumshoe premise, and I hope they can carry it off, because frankly I had high hopes for Archer Vice and that was pretty poorly executed.

I finally watched the first episode last night, and I really haven't felt this show for a couple of years, and last night I found that it was more annoying and forced in a lot of ways then funny. I don't blame the actors, they're tremendous. Its almost like the writers don't even know what this show is about anymore.
The themes are great ideas, but its just a real struggle right now.

How did the producers pull off that final scene, though? By going back through the Archer archives, executive producer Casey Willis tells TVLine: “We collected Jessica and Ron’s lines from every season of Archer and combed through them, selecting those we thought would foster the feeling we were trying to evoke. Alongside [series creator] Adam Reed, we worked to create a tribute to our beloved ‘Malory.'”
