This is the big difference between these two organizations right here. Even with no high draft picks, the Wings continually draft and sign good players to replenish their system.

I will admit that it looks like it was an epic fail on the scouting department when it comes to Cervenka, but i believe that Brunner was on the flames radar also. He just chose Detroit, nothing that the scouting department could do about that.

This is kind of sad actually.

You canīt write Cervenka off yet but he hasnīt been very impressive by any means. If he is injured itīs another thing but talk about regressed expectations- going from a possible 1st/2nd line center to being a nhl caliber forward at all.

I think Cervenka still has the skill to be that 1b/2a type forward in the NHL. It is apparent though his conditioning is far off of where he needs to be. I am sure he is more frustrated with himself than anybody is with him. Guys has sick sick skills.

I know where the Flames are in the standings

I just don't feel the need to pen a short story on how badly they'll lose each game and post it in the GDT.

It also maybe the fact that he's playing with Datsyk and Zetterberg on the 1st line. Cervenka would look alot better playing with them as well.

Isn't it weird how good a superstar center can make a defensively questionable winger look good ...

If he had the same stat line as Sven then we could probably call him a bust but he is getting roughly 0.5 ppg. I think we are all disappointed he is not a center and being scratched isn't the greatest but he is far from a bust. Especially if calling him a bust is putting it kindly.

Cervenka has 7 points in 14 games. The only 14 games he's played in the NHL and the guys a bust? There is no time no adjust to the NHL, that's it, 14 games, bust?

Cervenka is an UFA July 1. Is that correct?

Comparing a healthy Brunner playing with Datsyuk and Zetterberg (and PP), with an unhealthy Cervenka playing with Comeau/Hudler/Stajan/Jackman/the waterboy seems really silly.

And then going a step further and claiming Red Wings scouts are better than ours? Oi.

He isnt a bust he started out great and has lost a step the last couple games which points to his conditioning . I hope we re sign him because with a full off season to train and condition he will probably be a great help to this team

I think you need to give posters here a little more credit.

We're not all 12 year old kids, many of us actually watch the games and have many years of experience and know what to look for.

Cervenka has points, but can you honestly say that's he's been effective? Especially of late? Lately, he's been down right terrible. I cut him some slack early in the year because of his health, but he's only getting worse.

What we see is a guy who has no first step, can't elude backchecks, has no strength to battle, and therefore does not engage physically (not that he has to as long as he's creating offense, but he is not), and just basically a skill player who cannot get to the areas he needs to score.

I think my biggest crutch about the scouting of the Flames is not so much Cervenka's skill, because I agree he has skill, but it's more the failure to realize that the guy is not a centreman. If they recognized that, and did their due dilligence, maybe they wouldn't have spent a contract spot on another redundant winger in Comeau and instead focused on signing a centreman instead?

My post was not necessarily to bash Cervenka, but more to bash the Flames scouting on them selling us on Cervenka as a centremen. It's just a greater indication that this management team has no clue on how to build a winning and competitive team because they don't understand the importance of quality centreman and what qualities to look for in a quality centreman.
