Exactly zero people who commit murder are going to sound rational and relatable to those who are horrified by the crime. So for someone to say "He doesn't seem all there!" is stupid, because there aren't really a wide range of people who are going to easily relate to murder.
Anyone is capable of murder, but it takes a very select set of neurons firing for that to happen and until it happens to you, you'll probably think "gee that person doesn't seem of sound mind!" Sorry you were triggered by the mental illness aspect rubecube, I didn't mean to say that you had to be mentally ill to murder. Would this crime even be classified as murder?
If anything it's sad that's the immediate response when it's a white person.
I wasn't necessarily triggered by it. It's just something I've seen quite a bit on this site and it's always something that irks mainly from a logical and historical perspective more than a mental illness one (although it's irritating on that front as well).
Given your posting history on the subject, I kind of figured it was unintentional, but still wanted to nip it in the bud before others jumped on it.

I think the point made that when it's a Muslim person committing random acts of violence, we're quick to denounce them as vile and evil, while whenever it's a white person we try to play armchair psychologist and try to determine what led them astray is a perfectly valid example of benign societal bigotry.

To be fair that's exactly what taco.vidal was going for, he's historically always done that in these threads.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that.

This is a horrible event, I can't imagine what those people were going through. Is it a terrorist attack? Possibly, will he be tried as a terrorist? I don't think so, is that even a thing? I have zero idea.
As whether he is mentally ill or not doesn't matter here in my opinion. He should be locked up for the rest of his life and then some. We don't need these people on the street and possibly "recruiting" others with his hate speak and behavior.
I have a strange feeling that we will see a lot more of this happening around the western world and it will only feed the ISIS beast with more fuel, which is really sad. How do we end this? I wish someone knew.

Evil is a pretty tough thing to pin down. Better to say "psychologically normal people who have been led to evil acts by their devotion to terrible ideas". This guy may be in the same camp, or you may have to delete the first two words - that's for a professional to determine. But either way, it changes nothing important - two good people are dead, and a dangerous person isn't, and there is no good to be found here anywhere.

The murderer's Facebook is a pretty good view into the mind of a bigot. A great example of the danger of unchecked hate.
He was pretty checked.
- Thrown repeatedly out of public meetings whenever he tried to spew his filth.
- When actually trying to find a victim to harm, he was stopped by three of his
fellow citizens who gave their lives to protect a stranger.

I'm referring to the rise of white nationalists and the new right. It has effectively emboldened these people and given them more courage and passion. Anyone who is concerned with the state of Islam should also be concerned with growing Western hate organisations.
This guy had a fairly substantial support system and toxic community, but he'd easily be laughed off. It's the banality of evil that makes it so dangerous. It starts with people who say/post a few questionable things, while society allows their bigotry and hate to slowly ferment. What starts off as benign seemingly transforms into something cancerous and dangerous.
I feel like we're going to see a rise in home grown terrorism in the West that will rival anything we're seeing now from groups like ISIS.
When you can actually cite the judge who declared you legally sane, that might be the very definition of "damned by faint praise".

I like the mental gymnastics on the internet right now because it's coming out that this guy was a Tankie, like it was his politics that made us his think he was human garbage.
That whole corridor from the Canadian border to Portland along I-5 is a haven for racism against any non WASPs. A huge concentration of 2nd Ammendment-ers. Portland and Seattle are progressive enclaves within the sea of these hardliners.
